hey guys I just joined! my 2004 Tacoma just hit 300,000 miles and I was doing an oil change and decided to degrease the engine. I sprayed the stuff on, rinsed it off and now it seems like one of the plugs isn't firing. I'm guessing that a plug got wet? it's time to change them anyway so i'll start there. any other ideas of what it might be?

Exact same thing happened to me last month. Degreased the engine and developed a misfire. I replaced all 3 coils and problem solved. BTW... I have 362,000 on my truck. I bought my coils at Autozone. I think they were $70 each with a lifetime warranty.

Before you go buying new coils, first remove your existing ones and blast out any water you have down the spark plug holes. Water in there will ground out your plug and that cylinder will misfire.

Once they dry they will be fine unless you did ruin a coil with the water. Doubt it.

And if you do get new coils, get Densos. I've replaced many of these coils on customer cars and the auto part store ones are terrible.

Complete OME kit w/ 881's and dakars. All-Pro Sliders, CB, HAM Radio and various other minor stuff.
    Ding, ding, ding.

Pull each COP and blow out the spark plug channel (or whatever its called) with an air compressor or canned air. Once dry, put some dielectric grease in the COP boot, reinstall and enjoy an adult beverage knowing you saved yourself alot of money by not replacing parts that still worked.

My 2000 did the same thing. The o-rings that seal the spark plug holes wear out and allow water to get down onto the plugs grounding them out. I replaced my plug wires and never had that problem again.

My 95.5 tacoma (4cyl) did the same thing, except I got water on the plugs by spinning in circles in mud/6 inch deep water.
