From what I've read on here, the I4s in the second generation tacomas seem to have quite a bit of grunt for a 4 cyl, but i don't know for sure since ive never driven one and mine is a V6.

I think around the city, a V6 or an I4 wont be too much of a difference in terms of mileage. Now when your on the freeway, thats two more cylinders to feed fuel to if you get the V6 thus using more gas...I hope my logic isn't flawed :D.

Wow, that's pretty impressive for an 88 Nissan v6.

I love to enjoy the extra power of the 4.0, dont know why that would be an "absurd" concept for you. Then again I am an American and we obviously love fast, gas eating engines. I rode in a 2005 tacoma with the I4 up a local pass (teton pass/10% grade an 7-9000 elevation) and it really struggled. Worst thing about it was she was getting the same if not worse gas mileage than me due to having to rev the shit out of it to get up. My 4.0L easily flys up that pass.

Oh, and I never get below 19MPG, Average 21/22, and have got upper 23's.

I do really like the single cab short bed tacomas with the I4, perfect for 4x4. BTW my friends is an access cab I4 4x4.

Do what you want, and can reasonably afford. Can you afford to take a huge trade-in hit? If so, go for it. MPG is inconsequential when comparing a Tacoma 4 cyl 4x4 to a V6 4x4. Neither truck is an economy vehicle.
