You can always move the sensors from the original wheels into the new ones.

Just transfer them over. That's what I did and total for dismount, tpms transfer, mount and balance was less than a hundred.

I have been wondering about this. I am looking to but on steel rims and winter tires and really don't need the sensors. Can I run without the sensors and not throw any codes?

No codes but the damn light will be on. If you leave the rims with the TPMS in your garage right where you park the truck it’ll reset the light but I think 20 miles driving is the threshold that makes the light come back on.

Nothing wrong with a spacer lift if you don’t go wheeling.

Anyone have any info on TPMS sensors? I’ve seen a couple threads but nothing conclusive. I changed my tires out to 33’s, I had the shop fill them to 41 PSI, after driving for a week I finally got a day off from work and decided to reset my TPMS. I did this because it was programmed to my other tires, which I had filled with slightly less pressure, so lately with the 33’s in the morning the low tire pressure light would come on because it thought I still had the other tires I suppose. I have an hour drive to work, and by the time I would get there all tires would show the same pressure, so it seems to me that all the sensors are good?

However after resetting it all I get is “_ _ _”, I’ve driven maybe 10-15 miles at highway speeds and nothing has reset the pressures so far. I’ve even tried turning the truck off and on one or two times and then pushing the tire reset button, and then driving and that didn’t work either.

I have been personally rotating my tires for about six months and haven’t had any issues up until this point.

I’m going to give it a week of driving to work, which will be about 500-600 miles, and I’ll see if they get their act together. Just hoping someone has some insight until then.

I don’t understand. TPMS isn’t programmed to tires, it’s to the vehicle. If you kept the same TPMS sensors and just changed tires nothing has to be reset and it should read pressure just fine. Sometimes when I change to my other tires and reprogram my truck to the other sensors it’ll take a good 20 mile drive for them to show a pressure reading but when I’ve just rotated tires or changed tires and kept the same sensors I’ve never had to reset.

I know that, but according to the owners manual. You should reset them when you wish to change tire pressures. You fill them to the desired cold fill pressure then reset them, so the vehicle knows what to look for as a standard, that way it will know if it’s low enough to warn you of a leak.

They seemed to read pressure just fine, however they were sort of erratic, again I mostly did it because they were set at a pressure for my other tires which I was running higher psi in, I was getting sick of my tire light coming on in the morning when the tires would be at 38 psi.

As I said I’ll give it a week and see what happens.

I'm just throwing this out but some state inspections require the sensors, as they look at it as a safety device like ABS and is required to work!!! btw that truck looks awesome!!!

Interesting cause when I got my newest set of tires on they were set to 60psi. Drive like that for a good week then decided to drop it down to 45 for a week then eventually settled it in to 36psi. Never reset anything and never got a low pressure light at any time.

Maybe I was getting the low light because they broke a sensor. If that’s the case I’m going back and throwing a fit, I rarely do that but the garage I brought it too made the whole process way more painful than it had to be.

Well, after driving for about twenty miles, we are back online boys!! Tires were at around 38 pounds and also no low tire warning light!! Will have to go out early in the morning on the next day I have off and add a little more air but other than that I should be all set!!

20 miles seems to be the magic number. Glad you got it worked out

The TPMS idiot light on my 2011 Tacoma does not differentiate between tires! The light simply means one tire (somewhere) is low. I added an aftermarket GPS NAV unit in the dash, and it allows each TP sensor to be identified as to location, pressure, and temperature. Much better deal.
