Ok, i posted yesterday that I was going to get new tires today, Michelin LTX M/S2. I got this done at Sears, they had them in stock and it only took them a couple of hours. I checked it out when it was done and was happy about the tires, but on closer inspection I noticed that there was a big scratch on one of the rims:(. I was pissed, i have been a lot a places and my wheels have been fine. It is not a huge scratch but i did mention to them the wheels were painted and too be careful about it, I am currently writing an email to Sears to complain. I attached a picture of it so you can check it out, and please let me know if I am overreacting because I will think about it.

    thanks,

I'm assuming you have your OEM rims painted yourself. You didn't remove the wheel paints to paint under them (I wouldn't) so that "scratch" could be from where they removed the old wheel weights leaving that gap in the paint.

If metal was gouged from mounting, then I would be pissed and follow up with them replacing my rim.

I was planning on doing that anyways to fix it, but i didn't paint them to begin with, they were professionally done.

Well this is the obvious solution.

Good luck with it though hopefully they will make it right!

I'd say something but in the end you are probably going to have to repaint it yourself.

If they were aftermarket wheel i would agree and tell you to get back there and make them pay for it, but since they are painted stocks, just repaint them. It is extremely hard not to scratch that area of the wheel when mounting new tires, there is so much pressure from the machine and the tire that is hard to avoid, but without paint you would never notice anything ever happened.

All of other balance wights were placed on the interior of the of the wheel not to effect the look of the rims when they were finished.

powder coated? Painted...if so if you have weights on the outside of your factory rim, its bound to happen. Especially if the weight was installed soon after they were painted. Just repaint them. Slight over reaction. I should hope they at least apologized.

When you say "professionally done", do you mean powder coated?

Or just someone that's good with a rattle can?

If they are powder coated, then go back in there and raise hell. If it's just spray paint, of course it's gonna peel off.

    Repaint it.

I don't think you can really hold that scratch against them since the rims were painted over.

They were painted at a body shop (friend of mine at the time did them for me). He took the tires off lightly sanded the wheel and them painted them (in a spray booth). Balanced them for me and like i said earlier placed the weights along the interior of the rim not to affect the look. And that was done like two years ago now and there are very few nicks and scatches on the wheels and I don't always drive on the road.

The tire shop I used did it with my SE FJ wheels after I spent 6 months locating a set. I specifically asked them to please be careful with them. So frustrating.

Regardless if you painted them or not, the wheels were not returned to you in the same state in which you left them.

Unfortunately most tire shops have signs up that say something to the effect that they aren't responsible for any damages done to your tire/rims/vehicle when they are doing the work so most can't be held responsible for it and won't. Raise a little hell if they fix it awesome, if not just repaint.

Never go back to that place, give a bad review online if you can, go back and make a complain with the gm and talk shit about the place to whoever you know so they loose business. They won't go out of business but they will loose customers, that's for sure. One dissatisfied customer= 10 less customers.
