This past fall I was out driving in the hills and taking pictures - my usual weekend activity. This particular weekend also happened to be the first weekend of hunting season. It was getting late so I was heading back into town. Along the way, I have to pass a hunter game check station where the game wardens have all hunters pull off the road and they verify that they have their tags, etc. Well since I'm not a hunter I just blew right past the station. I get no more than 1/4 mile down the road and I notice flashing lights in my rear view...game wardens are coming up behind me. I pull over slightly, its on a 2 lane highway, so that they can pass me. Only they don't pass me, they stop behind me. WTF! Then I looked on my passenger seat and as soon as I saw my orange vest slung across the back of the seat I knew that they were in fact after me. I put the truck in park and rolled down the windows...and started laughing at how absurd the situation is. Two wardens come up to the truck, one on each side, and ask me why I didn't stop back at the checkpoint. Well because I'm not a hunter of course. I told them that I was just out for a drive and that photography is a hobby of mine, camera is sitting on the passenger seat as well. They tell me that they stopped me because they saw the orange as I drove past. I explained to them that I have the vest solely for my own safety this time of year and that I don't own a gun let alone hunt. They compliment me on being safe by wearing orange but tell me to keep it out of sight when I'm in the truck. I grabbed the vest, rolled it up and tucked it under my armrest...asked if they would have stopped me then...no. And I was back on my way again...still laughing.

I appreciate your respectful reply and question. I posted in the way that I did bc I did not appreciate the personal attack on the female LEO...We all have jobs and we don't always agree with the way we have to do those jobs. I do not work traffic and can only speak from more than a decade of patrol experience in SoCal...I pull people over to hopefully make an arrest on someone who violates the law, not to write tickets. I give, on average probably 5 warnings per shift to fix the little technical problems with vehicles or moving violations. I HAVE however, found guns, drugs, kidnap victims and drunks by pulling people over for a broken taillight, etc...To those that HATE cops...You don't HAVE to call in an emergency...but you will...and WE will respond to help YOU.

I'm not one who hates cops so this doesn't really apply to me, but joe public is told not to do anything like defend their home and such, we're told call the cops. if we don't we're "taking the law into our own hands"

Second year in college, Williamsport, Pa. Heading down the mountain on Rt 15, I dropped to 3rd in my bad-ass-4-cylinder-VW (lol) and hammer it to the rev limiter, I think it stopped at about 110 or so. My friend in the passenger seat just stops mid-sentence and says "cop". I immediately stand on the brakes. I got it to 80 (sliding) when he got me with radar, but I knew i was screwed, and lucky I didn't crash. I slowed up, got to the outside lane, and pulled over about 100 ft from where he was sitting. He then pulled out, and ripped by us, not seeing how quick I pulled over. We were practically dancing in the seats...figuring he was after someone else. but then the brake lights and reverse lights come up the shoulder. ... SCREWED! lucky I had to commute to a different campus and I admitted I saw 110 on the speedo and just pulled over for him so fast... all I got was a ticket. 65 over the speed limit.. lol. yeah, I drive like a grandpa now, saves gas too!

Pullovers but no tickets? Sounds like bored officers. Or profiling due to the look of your vehicle? Things that make you go hmmmm......

    Damn...that sucks!

Yet another reason not to go back there...left Richmond, Va in 1983 to join the Air Force. Last time I was there was 1991. No plans to go back ever...but that's yet another story.
