First and foremost, I'm thankful you are OK. Trucks can be replaced. You cannot.
    --------------
If you have "minor front end" damage, I would safely assume the engine is A-OK. What does it look like under the hood? Post up pics! I would be mostly concerned about radiator puncture(s) and, FWIW, pinched wires to things like headlights. Not sure if you have an intercooler, but that merits a close inspection too. Either way, these issues are very replaceable and repairable.

Were you able to drive it home? If not, say due to injury (again, I hope you are well BTW!), is it driveable now? Somebody needs to drive that thing.

Does it track straight? Does it make unusual noises? Describe these. Does the engine idle normally? What, if any, dashlights are illuminated and DTCs being thrown?

It takes 2 minutes to look around for leaks and check fluids. Ditto for checking all the lights functionality in the front and rear. Check those.

Post up rear end pics from underneath too! Have you or a close friend crawled underneath it yet? I would've done so on the side of the road if not hurt. These trucks are comically easy to look underneath.

Even with the damage it currently has, ask for it to be put directly on an alignment rack before anything else happens. That takes 1 hr (book rate, not actual time) and is an excellent diagnostic tool. You want to know up front if one of the rear wheels has a significant toe- or camber- issue. Modern racks can also measure wheelbase lengths too. This is, therefore, an easy check to see if you have a kink in your frame or are out of spec with respect to OEM wheelbase length.

I am optimistic you do not have frame damage in the back. The tailgate did its job and crumpled. Even if you had minor frame damage, which is the worst case scenario here based on the 1 pic, I would want that fixed in a 2023 truck such as yours with 5k. The beds on these trucks are also comically easy to remove and provide access for precise measurements and easy repairs.

All in all, IMHO, that is not catastrophic damage and that is absolutely repairable. Sucks that it happened, but based on what you are describing, you are being treated quite fairly already.

    Best wishes,
    Andy

I’d go for at least 20% diminished value. Your gonna have paint work front and rear, front end damage is always a concern.

I assume there was a police report, insurance claim and body shop, one of those three will report to Carfax. Then, how hard does Carfax hit it when they specify the level of damage?

Not for me. Easiest claim of my life pretty much. All I had to do was provide price listings for my aftermarket parts and the current model year motorcycle for replacement value and that was pretty much it. Cut me a check for well over what I paid for the bike and full value of the aftermarket parts and covered the ambulance and ER care provided.

Would not go through the other dude’s insurance. Go through your insurance and let them get the $$$ back. Similar scenario on my Taco. Their insurance offered me $1600. It was totaled and my insurance got $42K back for me.

How do you figure that? The claim was close to double the cost of my Tacoma. No different than any other motor vehicle accident claim process.

family was in insurance biz for decades. Motorcycle claims are much more straightforward, and why policies don’t vary much from carrier to carrier. Cost of vehicle isn’t a factor for an accredited firm. That is what insurance is for, whether you are driving a $10,000 car or $70,000 bike.

The other side’s insurance were just crooks! Sent me a check and a “all settled” letter inside of a week. Taco had not been for damage eval yet by that time. But pics clearly showed major damage… My insurance took a bit longer but waited for the damage assessment and went from there.

There were three cars involved, so in my experience if it caps out the at fault drivers insurance they will divided up and give each of you a percentage that might or might not totally repair your car. This happened to me when a three-car accident in front of my house took out my mailbox. Got a call from the insurance company explaining that there wasn't enough insurance to cover everything so I would get a percentage to repair my mailbox. I'm pretty sure the company was Progressive.

The formula for what you’ll get in these situations is pretty standard. Take whatever the total value is of the vehicle (without mods) and then subtract $5k from that total and if you’re lucky then you might receive that amount.

Well they are totaling it afterall. Mostly due to the wait time for the frame replacement and cost associated with the wait (rental and storage/labor on wrecked truck) I told them they will pay for my aftermarket mods and I didn't want them back bc they may be damaged. So far haven't got any pushback. If I had gone though my own I'm assuming they would not cover aftermarket parts, but since it's the at faults insurance they are legally obligated to cover anything associated with the wreck and the truck .

If they low ball me or try to say they aren't covering all the aftermarket parts, (again so far they have said they will pay for everything) then I will hire an attorney. I hate doing that, not really my thing. But getting screwed over isn't my thing either so... ‍♂️

Looking at this 2024 TRD Off-road in Bronze Oxide with the Premium Package RN. It's about 2 weeks out from being delivered. I checked out one just like it today in person but it's white (I'm not a fan of white trucks)
