Glad to hear ya'll are ok. Toyota's excellence in making these trucks safe.

Same thing happened to me in my 2005 Tacoma. I was at a light & was hit by a texting driver, he was doing around 50 ish. I heard a short squeel then bam! My damage was similar to yours. It bent the tow bar & the bed was shifted to the right. The autobody shop @ Toyota, said the bed floats on rubber nubs & has room to move in an accident. My tow bar took most of the impact & was badly bent, but no frame damage. The other guys insurance had to pay $3800 + rental car to fix it. I traded it in a month later. Had been thinking about a new one for a while , also didn't want to have to deal with any ill effects the wreck may cause down the road.

The shop said if the frame is bent in front of the axles it is an automatic total.

Or better yet, contact the other drivers insurer directly & make them pay for it all. That is what I did. I didn't pay any deductible. His insurer payed all of it including rental car & medical.

how does this work out? the tacos passenger side, was hit by the honda/dihatsu?'s passenger side? it would work better if one of the pictures had been reversed but neither is :(

I have heard that it's a good idea to pull off the aftermarket wheels ect. before you get it appraised by insurance. If they decide to total it you won't get any of that stuff back. Including aftermarket audio.

got rear-ended by a school bus 2 weeks ago. Bent bumper, buckled bedside, blown light. No frame damage, but I cashed out the price of the bumper and light which came out to roughly $900. Great way to go aftermarket with lights and a bumper! Like everyone is saying though, your frame is bent so this could be the end of the road.

That sucks man! But as others have said, glad you and yours are ok. The truck is replaceable. I'm weird and would probably want them to total it. It's a mental thing with me knowing the frame was bent. Also if they fix it their will be a record of it and that could hurt your resale value later on. So if it was me I would want them to total it. +1 on the manual for the next truck. You will like it. Good luck to you and happy you and yours are safe.

If I were you, I'd hope they total it and offer you to buy it with a salvage title. I'd take the $15-$20 grand they're going to give you and dump it into the truck.

Well after a lot of research about frames. I hope they total it if they don't I'm going to ask them to replace the entire frame not just pull it if they say it can be pulled .

Depending on price I'll buy it back.

When my truck was totaled they wrote me a check for $20.5k for an 06 PreRunner with 47k miles. I knew it was worth more but my parents didnt feel like fighting with them

Yep, Chicago, the sanctuary city, loves their illegal aliens.

Glad you and GF appear to be OK, but do yourself a favor and both of you get checked out. I realize that at 22 you consider yourself invincible and able to shake it off --- I hope that it doesn't turn out to be a foolish decision.

Chicago has a strange way of welcoming its visitors. :(

Well guys upon further investigation today I found several things.

The bed did in fact make contact with the cab.
The bed is broken (the floor part).
The bed is bowed up from being pushed in.
The left side of the frame is pretty badly damaged.
Needs new bumper, new tail lights, new bed, new tail gate, new fender flares, the cab fixed.

Axle might be shifted, I have a bad vibration in the drive line UGH

    This is crazy!!!

One question I have is, if they say they can pull the frame anyway I can ask them to replace the frame?

I mean if they pull it, won't it be weaker?

Also filed paperwork today will be receiving a call within 24 hours and still no update on the guy if he had insurance or not...

Glad you are okay! Looks pretty facked to me? I was rear-ended about 3 weeks ago, still off work on medical leave. Unfortunately she was going only 25mph, but she definitely was not insured and did not have a license.
