im thinking its a mid generational think to hate foreign cars. my grandfather is a wwII marine veteran and is the most patriotic man i know. He served overseas and dealt with all of the pacific islands. guess whats in his driveway? a TOYOTA corolla. He loves that car, hes had it since the 90s and drives it everyday. He swears by toyota. He has no quarrel with our foreign friends, and doesn't hang on to the past.

He just says "its a damn good jap car"

My dad gives me the same shit.

    He's stuck in the past.

Funny thing is when Mitsubishi came out with outboard engines 20 years ago he sold them at his marina. When he see's a Mitsubishi car/truck on the road he tells me every time they manufactured the Zero.

Guess when he can make money it's OK, but otherwise he thinks of Americans being killed in WWII

ha my taco was assembled in Texas! I always give my Dad shit about his "American" truck. ya if a 2500 duramax deisel is so american why is the engine, the whole life of the truck, made by izuzu ? or however you spell it. but the 2500s are assembled in america...i just think ts funny how the most importent part is made in japan or wherever izuzu is.

Its not like you bought the dam thing in Japan and shipped it here. You bought it in American dealership sold by American folks. You just helped put food and clothing into an american family and supported by the plants in Texas which also employ amercian people.

You also have to think about the other side of things. The money Toyota makes gets sent back to Japan and we all know how great they are as a regime.

If an American company produced a quality midsized truck I would buy one - they don't so end of argument. I used to be a Ford guy my whole life, but as their quality slipped they lost me as a customer. Now I hear they are back on track so who knows what Ill buy after my Toyota dies in 30 years :D

I don't care what people say about my truck. Drove several of my buddies "American" trucks and the quality is horrible. I couldn't believe the difference when I got back in my Tacoma.

The profit Toyota makes goes to their....shareholders. Toyota is a public company. You or I could own Toyota stock and we are Americans.

My last Ford truck was an 05 diesel Excursion. I bought it used with 50K. Biggest POS ever - repeated EGR/oil cooler/ blown head gasket issues, the same old story with the 6.0 - each time thinking "ok this time it will really be fixed". In two and a half years I had well over $10K in repair receipts. It stranded me once in the middle of a desolate highway with my little kids on board. It even stranded me in the parking garage at the hospital after my son was born, we had to take a #@$% TAXI home. you know what my wife thought about that? I can laugh now, but I assure you it wasn't funny then.

The US Government defines domestic vehicles in two basic ways: where they're assembled and the percentage of parts content comes from an American source. We add the final two criteria to clear the air on confusing issues regarding ownership. For example, you may think that the Dodge Ram is an American vehicle, but it's really not: Because Dodge is owned by a German company, DaimlerChrysler, and because its parts content does not reach the US threshold of 75 percent, it's actually an import.

I am the only one in my family that owns a "foreign" truck and they give me shit about it all the time. But you know what’s funny... all of the cars in the family are Toyotas or Hondas.... hmmmm lets think about this for a moment . But on top of it all I always laugh when someone says "trucks back at the shop" or "now I have to spend all weekend fixing that damn thing AGAIN!!!!". I just keep my mouth shut and just wait for the day when they finally get the right idea about getting a dependable long lasting truck and not worry about how makes it, so I can rub it in their face. Guess I am just ahead of my time :D

Dodge is part of Fiat Chrysler now, which is Italian, but your point is still well made.
