My first tacoma was built in Fremont California, right down the srteet from my house. Too bad they stopped building there.

I would give crap to someone buying a foreign car if there is an on par alternative they could buy. I come from a Chevy family and wanted to support our country by buying American. The only problem was the Colorado's just aren't on par with Tacomas. Tacomas are the best mid sized pickups out there by far.

So instead, hopefully our Tacoma purchases will convince Chevy to build a better truck to replace our Tacomas with 5-10 years from now.

My 2012 Taco was assembled in Mexico. Regardless of where they are assembled, or where they say parts are built, money is leaving the country and going to Japan.

The more made in USA or USA owned companies we buy from, the bigger benefit it will be to our kids.

Didn't Chevy put their badging on some corollas and call them prizms or something like that? So much for the purity & superiority aspect of Chevrolets. :D

Not all of them do, toyota used to make cars for Chevy to put their badges on. Just like Pontiac put theirs on a matrix and called it a vibe.

I've taken a lot of flak for driving "Jap" vehicles, and I've dished out more than my fair share on the domestics.

More and more I just find myself accepting whatever people drive. It's not my money, it's not my problems, it's not my choice, and I have no right to give them orders on any of that without giving them the choice of sending a bill in return. No, anymore I just ignore negative stuff and say "nice car/truck" unless it's got softball-sized rust holes in it, in which case the phrase is usually "nice deal." If they ask for advice, THEN the spigot opens ;)

Besides, anyone who tells me I should have bought "American" has no ground for two big reasons. One, since most of us have need of an automobile in this day and age, why should companies be entitled to a big chunk of my money just for the sole reason that their nameplate started here x number of decades ago. Two, since this argument also tends to include the "where the profits go" bit, is this not support of the supposed 1% that so many of these same people are protesting on a regular basis, as well as the investment in out-of-country manufacturing infrastructure these same companies seem so dedicated to.

I've had a negative comment about my Japanese-American truck. It came from a guy I was on a date with. Dude had been kind of a dick all evening anyway, but when he said, "You call that Oriental scrap metal a truck?" I'd had enough. He'd spent 30 minutes complaining that his ***ROOMMATE'S*** [sh!tty, sloppily-applied, spray-paint camo] F150 was basically a sh!tmobile, completely unreliable and he was paying as much in repair as he would on a new truck. So let me get this straight: This idiot drives a POS American truck that doesn't even belong to him, and he has the testicular fortitude to insult my Tacoma? I suddenly remembered I had to work early in the morning and left, deleting his contact info from my phone before I made it to end of the street. A$$hole.

I don't care what anyone else drives, I assume they bought their vehicle because it suited their needs and it's not my problem anyway. So... why would someone feel it's their place to comment about my truck?

    Stickers. Lots of stickers.
YES! I get shit at work all the time about my truck being foreign… I want to say all Tundra's are made in a plant in San Antonio, along with most Tacomas nowadays. My "Jap" will out run, out climb, and preform better than anything they have.

I think it has to do with trucks more so. Do you hear as much crap about "Jap" cars? It seems to be aimed more at the trucks, therefore being a testosterone thing. "my truck is a real truck" I mean yeah, if I needed my truck to tow and do heavy duty work daily I probably would have an American truck. But of course now we have full sized Toyota's and Nissan's, just no HD or diesel. Which brings up another point, do Tundra and Titan guys get the same crap? I'm betting not as much if so.

You have it backwards. What I meant was...... there went the so-called purity of the "American" brands being taughted as superior by these knuckleheads while the brands they believe we all need have rebadged so-called jap junk with their coveted American logos periodically along the way making their arguments and comments even more idiotic and hippocritical. I know what forum we are on and everything other than a Tacoma is 2nd place at best :D previous post fixed for clarity.......

Hey I'm all for supporting the American economy. But that doesn't mean I'm going to sacrifice $30,000 for shit. I don't have that kind of money to burn. There's no excuse for poor quality. Build it right & I'll buy it. Period.

    A) Tacoma seems to have a pretty decent tow package, or at least I've never had trouble towing anything from boats to UHaul moving trailers to a trailer with a racing car inside. Now if I could just learn to back the damned trailer down a boat ramp in less than 5 tries, I'd really have it made :D

    B) I see a large number of Tundras out here in the oil fields, towing all sorts of oil field equipment. Seems to tow anything a similarly-sized "American" truck tows.

    C) Very few of the diesel pick-ups I see are actually towing anything or carrying any heavy equipment. Mostly they seem to be daily driver vehicles, just like my Tacoma. They might need to tow something once in a while, but it probably wasn't a huge consideration when they bought the truck (just like when I bought my Tacoma I thought, "Meh. Might as well have it, you never know.") And so I've concluded that the diesel is mostly needed for hauling around all that ego.
