Oh I'm not putting down on the Tacoma's towing at all. Just saying if I did work that required towing all the time I'd probably be driving a big F250 or something along them lines. I just think a lot of the crap comes from full sized guys putting down on the smaller truck, the "Jap" thing just gives an excuse to hate on it. I don't hear too much about Ranger, Dakota and Colorado/Canyon drivers getting shit, but I don't really know anyone that drives them either.

And you're right, I see the big diesels all the time not pulling a damn thing and they tend to drive as if saying "hey get a real truck".

On a side note, I traded a Hemi Ram Quad cab for my Taco. I did love the power and size, but come to the conclusion that I didn't need it since I didn't tow anything anymore. I can't really put down on the Ram, it was a great truck for the most part. Had a couple little problems fixed under warranty but nothing drive train wise. I was however always afraid of the Tranny going out, that plus the mpg had a lot to do with me trading.

When talking to an old timer... not me MFer.

I mean a WWII vet, and no not many around. I can understand where they are coming from. Read some history; some of the things they experienced in the islands there no getting over or forgiving.

Some of the Japanese companies of that era making vehicles today made war machines, and that's the end of the discussion in their eyes. I don't fault them for it. It is what it is.

I have family working for Ford, and GM. I can get employee discounts on those vehicles. I bought a Tacoma!

My wife owns a 2012 loaded Rubicon, we shall see.

My idea of helping out USA auto makers is purchasing the best bang for my buck product to fit my needs. If it isn't them, then I just helped them out. Learn the lesson and adapt with a better product!

I personally love Ford, wanted a Raptor, but not for the $!

No USA Auto maker makes a midsize truck to compete with our Tacoma, period!

Yes, it is actually more of a USA product then our so called USA auto maker brethren.

Right. And the US had "internment camps" for Americans of Japanese decent during WWII. They had Japanese families who had never broken a law and were not combatants in the war living in horse stalls on the off chance they *might* be spies. Hooray, America! Champion of Human Rights! Also, Ford made tanks and airplanes for the Nazi army. If we're whining about buying American based on memories of WWII, let's make sure we include all the relevant information.

Besides, I'm pretty sure I didn't even purchase an "American" vehicle and I still helped them out. Bailouts, yo. I pay taxes. And before any Ford owners get uppity, at the time of the bailouts Ford was waiting on a $6 Billion loan from a Dept of Energy program, and asked Congress to leave them a $9 Billion credit line just in case they didn't get the loan through the DOE. When the loan came through they didn't need the *other* bailout, so they took our tax money from the DOE and made commercials saying that they didn't need our tax money. Really?

Don't forget they also threw in Chinese in those interment camps, and every family that had property had to sell it for pennies or lost it all. At the beginning of WWII the US supplied Japan, and Germany. US was neutral until Pearl harbor. My truck was made in Fremont, the parts are sources from local companies, and the engine/tranny are from japan. In order for foreign companies to actually sell in America a % of parts need to be from America. Most American companies aren't that much American because everything is moved out of country because well as consumers we don't want to pay the real price of what something built in America would cost. Labor cost is to high, and the companies only care about profit. You think Ford really cared that their cars exploding when rear ended? Not to mention they also had a motto of building their cars to break down so people.

You can take a 10 year old Tacoma, set it on fire, hit it with a train, then lower it and paint a brama bull on the hood, and it will still have a better resale value than any hunk of shit that Chrysler has put out in the past 5 years.
I have had people make comments on me driving a Toyota, like its an unAmerican thing to do. These are people who deserve to be told to fuck their mothers.

We got my wife a Saturn Vue. Saturn was a cool American car story for a while who's gone now....in case uncle is confused. But anyway, yeah, we felt good buying American.

Anyone know what's under the hood?

Well, it starts with an H and ends with an onda.

Yup, same motor out of a Pilot - 3.5 V6. Tranny too.

Honda motor and polymer panels - all American.

Don't care what is said. If the american car builders would get their head out of their ass, more people would buy their products. The quality is there for the most part, they just look like crap.
