I'm scratching my head on this one...my 1999 V6 5 speed has the original ...everything as far as transmission, clutch, plate, throw out bearing, and I am at 100K. I can "SEE" the dealer saying it's an item that wears... and I don't have a warranty but I would look really close at the original paperwork to see what's up as far as replacement cost v.s. warranty. Keep us posted

Call the 800# in the back of your owners manual. Im throwing the BS Flag. They should cover it. Hell, The clutch in my 2000 lasted WAY over 100K, and I beat on it.

I'm gonna run through that warranty booklet. See what exactly is and is not covered if I can. My mom called toyota already, well actually still on the phone. She is yelling. :(

I agree. Call Toyota before you start digging into your truck. A 2008 w/ 17k miles on it should absolutly be covered for this. You're going to spend your own time/money AND risk messing something else up b/c your dealer is an idiot.

I can't believe they actually told you to "call us if you find something else while you're digging around."

IF they end up not covering it, get a small box. Put some Dog poop in it, and mail it to the GM.

Got to be covered under b to b and powertrain warranty. Pressure plate, shift fork, or throw away bearing must have broken... no way to wear the friction material out in 17k unless you are routinely revving to 4k rpm and sidestepping the clutch.

I agree, call corporate, six years of driving a stick does not sound like user error.

No what you need is to call corporate and file a complaint. Or have the dealer contact their Toyo Regional Rem and have him take a look.

It is covered under warranty. Do Not let them take advantage.... they need to perform the work that is promised

It falls under the 3yr/36000 mi bumper to bumper warrenty. I bought the extended warrenty for 7 yr/75000 mi. If anything breaks during that time, Toyota fixes it.

I see what you mean. They should do warranty work without question. But that didn't happen today. I was about to start working on it (since I really need the truck) but I guess I'm gonna wait and try to talk to the dealer again before hand.

Thanks for the advice guys. I know I totally look like a little doucher with no nuts to stand up for myself right now. :(

I hope it was mechanical failure and is covered by warranty. The reason for my questions is because when something fails that shouldn't, the first thing you do is look for an external cause.

Clutch components are 3 years and 36,000 miles, not an internally lubricated part which takes it out of the 5 year 60,000 mile warranty. I would like to see the condition of the clutch and the disc. If it has pieces coing out the side of the transmission which I have seen then you are looking at a driver malfunction not a clutch malfunction. I just had a kid with 23,000 miles on a TC that just flat out burnt it up and his tires are bald. Obvious misuse of the vehicle. This kid had debris coming out of teh vent holes that made his transmission look like it had armpit hair.

No worries... alls you need is a little experience, which this episode should provide, to get where you can tell if a dealer is jerking you around. Tell the truth I have heard more stories like this about Toyota dealers since getting my Tacoma last Nov. than I have ever experienced in my many years with other brands. I am not liking it.

You're good, man. I've had dealers try to tell me that something isn't covered and they're really convincing. Hell, the people telling you often don't know that they're shoveling shi* themselves. You have to go to their boss, or to Corp. to have the knowledge knocked into their heads the hard way.

Now you know for the next time.

Keep us updated on how it turns out.

If/When I do go to fix it, I'll take pics.

And by pieces coming out the side of the transmisison, you mean like holes in it? And like posibly leaking fluid? I don't have any fluids running out, and externally, everything looks fine.

The warranty manual says this (listed under transmission and transaxle):

(this is a list of what is covered and how long)

"Case and all internal parts, torque converter, clutch cover, transmisison mounts, transfer case and all internal parts, engine control computer, seals and gastkets."

The pressure plate would fall under which one? Or does it look like it doesn't fit under these?
