But yea man just go to your court date with your ticket and be prepared to sit there all day, traffic court sucks. When your name is called you'll talk to the ADA or judge handling it and tell him you heard that you may be able to file under article 10.93. It wouldn't hurt to try even with it being over 20mph. Good luck!

I lived in Uptown and worked in New Orleans East (Michoud NASA installation). Had they pulled over and arrested people for doing 20+ on I-10 in NOLA, NOBODY but me would've been on the road...

But, I know that outside of NOLA, the law is more strict. Yikes, arrested for 20+ on the books is OVERKILL!

Don't sweat it to much OP. Not really a whole lot that you can do about it. Admit fault and attempt for lesser points etc.

Thanks for the uneccessary lesson in obviousness. Obviously you didn't read the 2nd half of my post that you quoted where I stated "unless LA is more lenient". That meant maybe it is different in the OP's state. Yes, laws vary from state to state & jurisdiction to jurisdiction. I'm sure there might be at least a few illegal citizens in this country that didn't know that. I am not one of them.

OP, good luck on being able to take defensive driving in your state and jurisdiction. The only other way out of these things is hiring a traffic lawyer to reset it into next yr and hope the cop doesn't show up and get dismissal. This isn't something I've ever used on a state trooper level, only for city/county/constable locally. The price of the lawyer (usually 100.00) is well worth the money when you consider the fine, court cost to get def driving, cost of def driving & heaven forbid, how much extra the insurance will cost for 3 yrs because of having it on your record.

I got the same ticket in Louisiana in 03, it cost me over $350. If your lucky and don't get any tickets for the next 3 years, the ticket will drop off your record before your insurance hears about it. Sucks man, GL.

Go to court tell them you are a student (shows you at least are trying) explain the circumstances and hope for the best. If the judge is not having a bad day he may let you slide with just a fine or maybe even a PBV.

I'm not sure why it would matter if the OP was a student. Speeding is speeding regardless.

Same way speeding is speeding but females who cry and/or are endowded tend to catch a break. Doesn't have anything to do with the law- Has everything to do with officer discretion.

25 over in a construction zone, they are going to throw the book at you man. i had almost the same thing happen to me when i was 17, nearly lost my license, and i was speeding to help a friend get somewhere to boot! i was afraid to tell my parents, and i wound up in traffic court, where some judge could not care any less about my story, that i was a student, etc. the fine was so high i couldn't pay it all at once, and my insurance went through the roof for three years. i had to drive like a saint after that as well, because if i got one more infraction during 18 months my license would have been gone.

you really need to go speak to a specialized traffic lawyer about this (and not the family lawyer who does not do this type of law every day) because you could be paying for this for years down the road. the consultation with the traffic attorney shouldn't cost you a dime. trust me on this, it will be the best money you - or your parents - ever spent. if you don't know how the system works, you are at a huge disadvantage and will have little or no chance in court. the lawyers who do this every day will tell you exactly what they can - or can't - do for you. you can decide if their fee is worth the money. don't make the same mistake i did and go in there blind.

i googled your area, check this guy out: http://louisianaspeedingticket.com/

go talk to him and see what he tells you. if not this guy, find another. don't learn the hard way. good luck.

Haha. I'll remember that next time I stop a fireman . I'll let him know I wrote him because of you.

O.P. if you haven't ever had any speeding tickets before get a copy of your driving record and take it to court. That usually helps around here.

Sarcastic or not the comment should have not been made. They are not on the same team. I am an MP in the reserves and also work under the Departmen of Justice I get tickets all the time from cops and other times get out of them simply because of what I do. So it is not a same team thing or not it is all about the cop.
