What you did was minor. I would purchase a power washer if you plan on doing this often .

You're fine. Good cleaning, visual inspection, keep an ear out if you are worried beyond that. Worst thing that has happened to me with playing in or around mud, is it gets between the leaf springs and sounds like a 30 year old truck groaning with every little move until you take a pressure washer to the leaf pack.

It rarely pays to be courteous on the trail.

A buddy of mine backed his week-old Jeep into a deep trench thinking that he should be nice and give the oncoming quad “more room.” He turned his Jeep on one side, broke a side mirror and traumatized his two toddlers for life against off-roading.

Clearly there’s no need to be an ass, but on the trail you should always look out for number one ahead of being “courteous”.

    Glad you didn’t break anything.

Courtesy is fine, but being familiar with "Leave no trace" and "Tread Lightly" principles never hurts. In this case OP should have stayed on the road instead of heading for the mud.

Poor judgement on the OP's side. Pulling over in to the ditch with mud and water=disaster.

Just to be clear, it wasn't mud when I pulled over. What you see in the 3rd pic (the "after") is drastically different than the before. It just looked like dirt and grass. I would not have pulled into mud and expected to get out.

How many here have tried using their flat recovery strap as a improvised winch line wrapped around a tire? Saw a guy do this that wanted to show how it can be done. Its very slow going and you need a spotter to yell if the line starts to go off the tire, but heck, it pulled his truck right out of thick goopey clay!

Everyone else is wrong. You need to unmount those tires, clean the inside of the rim, remount/rebalance, plus repack your wheel bearings. Change your oil and air filter just to be on the safe side.

(Keep in mind that your truck will still be perfectly ok if you don't do any of that. Im just recommending that you do so that you waste your saturday...) :stirthepot::poking:

I put cleaning mine off while driving on clay-mud dirt roads in New Mexico until I got back to California, and the stuff got fired onto my exhaust pipes. Its like pottery now and won’t come off very well. Worse thing is it’s rust colored and looks like really bad rust on the pipes!

Haha nice. Something similar a few weeks ago. I hosed off the underside and left a sprinkler on 20 min at a time and moved it 3 times. Hosed it off again the next day double checking the brakes and other important shit.

If you want to get screamed at like nothing on earth, get caught by the attendant at a car wash spraying down a muddy truck. You will only do it once.

Should probably also rebuild the engine and transmission...... just to be sure.
