So went out to my wife's property on a lake, big gated community type thing, and they're building a beach. Let me just say that I'd been drinking a bit (not a biggie since its private property), so I see all this sand and think "why the hell not?" I go into it in 2wd (retard) and shortly after I find out it's some real fine powder sand and it's bone dry.

We start to lose momentum and stop completely, I put it in 4hi... Nothing... So I put it and 4lo and lock the rear. My tail end is slowly sliding towards the lake.. I stop. I'm about 10ft from the water with my tires buried about 3/4 to the top.

So we get out (me, my wife, her friend, and bf) me and her bf are already thinking about who to call to pull us out, and my wife and her friend are saying "fuck that we got this". They stand at the rear driver side of the truck and push while I try to creep along. After moving about an inch every 15 seconds for about 10 mins, we finally hit solid ground and we're free. Liberating my pride from breaking and having to call a friend (most definitely a diesel nut who'd most definitely give me shit for taking a non 'merican truck off road).

Moral of the story: my wife wants me to get new tires (awesome!), she had more faith in that truck than I did lol (disappointing but also awesome)
    And I'm an idiot.

That was really my first experience going through a lot of sand though, hard to come by in Missouri. Felt like a story I should share, most definitely lacking intelligence on my end :/.

I wouldn't drink and drive whether it's private property or not.

    Glad you got out.

Read up on tips for going OffRoad in sand. Check threads on Glamis, Ca and such. Never use 4lo in sand. It'll just dig you in deeper.

Good advice, although i wasn't anywhere near intoxicated, would've definitely evaluated the situation better had I not been. We were just Puttin' around some rutted roads until we came across that. Definitely won't be underestimating sand anymore tho lol

You could also deflate your tires a bit. That would've helped. And never forget your shovel.

He won't be left alone if he deletes it either.

I would rather he have some balls and own his mistakes like he's doing with the post in the first place than not. Not sure what you call someone who can't face reality, but it definitely isn't what men do.

That's what I was thinking before I switched into it, but I figured since I'm not flooring it the lower gear might make it a bit better. Honestly I saw the crawl control video of truck being buried in sand and tried to make the truck behave as much like that as possible lol

yeah as others said here it comes

drinking and driving on private property LOL

get used to seeing the inside of a jail cell if that is your mentality.

private property clause has zero to do with anything on your side, if anyone gets hurt or killed

That's very true, not going to argue that. I don't consider private property as an immunity card, however, when the majority of the residents are hillbilly types driving side-by-sides more than their cars with bud ice cooling their nuts.. It's much much easier to get relaxed reactions for it.. As long as no one is hurt or injured.

Not true... Ever played in the dunes.... your truck will thank you for being in 4lo so you dont burn up your trans. Never got stuck in 4lo in the sand, and trans temps were 40*F less than in 4hi.

The biggest thing in sand.... TIRE PRESSURE. drop the pressure down to 15-20 psi and you will be so much better off.

I air down to 17 lbs in each tire when on the beach. Use 4 high. The place here in MD where we can drive on the beach requires a shovel, tow rope, jack, and a piece of wood. I use a 2x12X18", not sure the exact size the require. Airing down seems to be the key.

Okay well in this case, 4lo dug him in deeper. So there's that. Driver input and experience was lacking in this case. It happens. Most shouldn't use 4lo because it'll just dig them in deeper. Those who know how to use 4lo in the dunes can and will, those who don't shouldn't.

Hows the weather up on that high horse? Having a couple drinks responsibly on private property is hardly cause for ridicule. How many of you Americans have I seen firing guns while shit-faced?

I watched a crawl control demonstration which was a similar situation loose sand. Dug in with the back wheels, then they put it in 4wd and dug in the front. Somehow, they put it in crawl mode and it took a bit but drove out. I assume it was just some gimmick, not sure how they did it so easily though.

4lo got me out but that was after I was stuck, before that I was still in go lucky happy mood. Me being a dumbass in 2wd got me stuck 4hi dug me in, using a little bit of brain and 4lo helped me out.
