toyota sent me a letter today regarding a potential issue with the leaf springs breaking or cracking or whatever. I believe it to be dumb because they tell me that they are aware of the potential issue and that they are in the process of putting a parts kit together and getting them to dealers and that I should be able to take my truck into a dealer in early 2016.

Early 2016?!!!! Now I'm aware of the issue thanks to this forum, but it seems a little dumb to send me a letter telling me that I have an issue with my leaf packs that could puncture the fuel tank or tires, or worse if they break. What am I, or the other 2 million Tacoma owners supposed to do for,the next 3 months?

Not that I'm going to stop driving my truck, nor am I really concerned about it. Just thought it strange to send a letter out months before anything can be done. Ok, off my soap box. Now who wants to bet that my springs will break before the fix is ready!

I'm placing bets that Toyota wont even get started on the new leafs until mid-late 2016. When has a car manufacture ever gotten on top of their mistakes?

Any idea of the model years affected by this? And where could one go to find out if they are affected?

Letter says 2005-2011. Swore I saw 2015 on there. My truck isn't affected apparently since it's a 2014. Letter must have been for my 2010. Still though. Why would they change anything about the springs in 2012. The truck has remained unchanged except for the appearance in 10 years.... I'm sure they'll end up adding the 12s-15s later.

Middle of 2016 is when leafs will be made. Right now they're building frames instead.

The pinion nut that backed out on my 2010 Ram took 8 months to get parts, but Chrysler sucks on recalls. Hope yours goes better OP.

Part of 2011 anyhow. Apparently my '11 was manufactured late enough in the year that it isn't covered.

Which to me says that they've known about the issue since sometime in 2011. Why else would they make a change to something as simple as a leaf pack?
