I have a few hobbies - mountain biking and building things out of wood. Just thought I would post up a pic of the raw material for my next project, a desk for my wife. Lumber is 2" by around 24" Poplar. It was just cut so both pieces wet weigh about 200 lbs apiece. Now for the next few months the drying process is all that's happening! The Tacoma is perfect for this type of use. 7K miles in a few months with zero issues. Love this truck.20170804_204929.jpg 20170804_204912.jpg

Sound like a FuN and therapeutic project and good wood choice. Not so sure about the choice in vehicle to haul it with though. Ive heard from a few vocal experts here on TW that its not a good hauler as it has no torque, no power, transmission has no fluid, is not reliable, and the wheels might come off.

How in the world were you able to do this??

    Sub'd for the project

    Cheers!

That looks like some nice wood. You might want to seal the end grain to prevent checking though. I also love woodworking but when I look at that and see strats and teles. This is my last project...

Woodworker here as well. I build taxidermy pedestals, game calls, traditional bows, custom Hat Blocks for a felt hat maker, and what ever the wife needs.

I love me some wood.... Damn That sounds dirty LOL.

How about I'm a fan of good wood... Nope still sounds bad...

Hmm... Wood is cool ?? Haha

My screen name on another forum is worldwood! I have had a fascination with different color natural woods since i was a kid.

Here is some of my favorite. Buckeye Burl.

Also on the side there's katalox, tiger wood, cocobolo, lacewood, cedar, and birch.

I got this in my shop now... Not sure what I'll do with it yet... but... I just had to have that buckeye.

My father makes intarsia as a hobby... You should Check it out If you have never seen any... I tried my hands at it but it's difficult and very time consuming. You make a picture using only the natural colors of different woods. No paint. Each piece is cut by hand, sanded one at a time and made to fit. A good artist can make pictures appear 3d.

Later I'll post a couple pictures of his work If there's any interest in seeing it.

 I've always loved how much the heartwood and sapwood contrast in poplar.

Here is a batch of poplar hat conforms I just finished for Great Basin Hat Company. Each of these blocks are sized exactly like a specific customers head. That way when they build them a beaver felt hat it will fit perfectly out of the box.

I'll bite. Although mine are all construction grade.
Last summer I cut a dripline for the deck until I replace it:
    WP_20160715_14_17_22_Pro.jpg
Then I cut and floated raw teak in our master and second bathroom. Sealed it with Semco and it has been the best floor ever for a bathroom:WP_20160723_09_03_25_Pro.jpg WP_20160724_09_39_47_Pro.jpg WP_20160724_16_08_15_Pro.jpg WP_20160724_17_32_02_Pro.jpg
Had enough leftover to do all of the closets in the house so not a lick of carpet anywhere:
    WP_20160725_18_41_11_Pro.jpg
And just because you can see some of my office in the picture above, ipe in a chevron pattern:
    WP_20160728_002.jpg
Chinese cedar playhouse for the kids this spring. Time was an issue so it came in a kit:
    WP_20170416_18_04_31_Pro_LI.jpg
Earlier this summer, deck in the pointless 1980's atrium. It was just dirt and wood chips before. Pressure treated frame and cedar decking:

    WP_20170710_12_12_27_Pro_LI.jpg
Then later this summer framed out some skylights in the bedrooms and living room that got replaced with the roof in cedar. Looks a little ski lodge for my taste but the drywall that was in there was a mess:WP_20170627_17_28_03_Pro_LI.jpg WP_20170614_18_51_14_Pro_LI.jpg

Ok, now I want to play... simple farmhouse table I made for $100. Needed a bigger dining table for the new house. Matching benches before staining...
