Almost any of the Magellan or Garmin units work well for me in the Northeast. I believe that Sears has a Magellan Roadmate 1424 model on sale today and tomorrow for about $90. Bigger screen, voice announced turns, easy to use and program.

I have an older, smaller Magellan. You can also get some good deals on Amazon or even EBAY (that's where I got mine).

I love my Garmin 265WT. 4 inch screen, Bluetooth, FM traffic updates for free. Works great....Maps my off road adventures pretty well too.

I used my dad's TomTom for a while when I was home for some leave and maybe it was because I was used to my Garmin...but the controls seemed very awkward and not friendly to me.

I have a Garmin 1300. Not sure of the screen size, but it displays Alt., speed, distance, along with the current location. Touch screen, and very easy to use. Dirt cheap too.

I've got a Garmin Nuvi and love it! One of my friends has a TomTom and doesn't like it. the battery life sucks and it doesn't always pick up where you're located.

i had a garmin nuvi 760. the battery didn't work for some reason so it had to be in the cigarette lighter for it to work. but i loved it, had the traffic updates and everything right on the screen...then again, most newer models have that now anyway

I have the Tom Tom app on my iPhone. I think it was $59 for the app. It works great and updates are free. The biggest benefit to me is, I have it with me all the time.

My wife is directionally challenged, hence the gps. Hope you got a good deal on yours as mine tends to be expensive.
