I know this is not the section for this discussion but I feel this area will garnish more action because most of you probably worry about your solid axle truck like me.

Some crackhead tried but failed last week. Beside the broken door lock and ignition switch, the kill switch did its job. Now, I want to be able to track its movement if I'm not driving it.

    Thanks!

If you have an iPhone, AirTags are a cheap and easy way to track it.

Read recently that non-Apple users will be able to use Airtags soon. I didn't see a specific compatibility date thought.

They just ping off any iPhone in range and update location that way. They’re really just Bluetooth locators that use the location of the iPhone they ping off to show about where they are.

Apple has an android app to track air tags. Air tags certainly are not perfect, as if there are no phones in range to ping it and echo the location back to the owner it will only report the last location that it was pinged. But they are simple, very small, don’t require being wired to a battery and don’t require a subscription for tracking like a GPS unit does.

I was reading up on AirTags last night. Apple built in a feature where if an AirTag is detected around you (and away from the owner) it will send a notification to your phone (only iPhone iOS 14.5+). A nice feature to prevent stalking, but a not-so-nice feature when it comes to tracking stolen property. If the thief is carrying a relatively new iPhone and steals your truck, the thief will be notified they are being tracked. The AirTags have a built in speaker which will go off (an anti-stalking feature) allowing the thief to easily locate it and dispose it.

So if you are going to use an AirTag as a tracking device, I suggest doing two things:
1 - Hide it in a really good location in your truck (don't just throw it in the glovebox or center console). Take apart the dash and hide it in there, or rip apart one of the seats and hide it in there, something like that.
2 - Disable the speaker in the AirTag, there are many YouTube videos on how to do this. The thief may still get a notification they are being tracked (no way around that) but if they can't locate the AirTag then they may just ditch the truck.
