Duly noted, I'll look into blocking this as well haha

that being said. My main concern is the loss of the truck and the collection of parts as a whole. They can break in, steal some stuff from the interior, hell maybe even a couple bolt on parts. those can be replaced. Finding another truck to build out again? might as well do a hard reset in monopoly when the game is almost over.

Get yourself an OBD port lock as well. They really can’t do anything if they can’t connect to the truck.

Good info on OBD port lock & covering up vin from outside. I'll look into that.

I've already given a list to my insurance of all aftermarket parts I've added. I'm sure I'll do ok and get some pro rated amount.

I just happen to love the truck the way it is. Have put a lot of time, effort, and money into it and want to hold onto it (as we all do I'm sure) It was a 9 month wait just to get my rear bumper, and wouldn't want to go through all that again. Guess I am just trying to stack the odds as much as humanly possible in my favor. Lots of good ideas thus far, appreciate the responses!

If you have one locally you should look into Revelco Anti Theft system. Not cheap but your truck will not be taken.

I have a spot “trace” hooked up the the battery. The device was $50 on sale and the service is $120 a year for 5 minute tracking when it’s moving. I’ve had it for 4 years. It’s reliable.

Insurance isn't going to rebuild his truck and deliver it to him.

Might as well drive without license plate. FYI: anyone with knowledge can pull your VIN through your vehicle's license plate if you didn't know.

My insurance is adequate...I'll post this again

Well the hope is that w/ a live location right away, maybe you could get LEO there in time. Doubtful I know but I'd still like the capability. Like I said, stacking odds in your favor as much as possible.

Not trying to argue with you. You stated cover your VIN so no one can get a key made based on your VIN. Yes that's true. But you can also pull a VIN through the vehicle's license plate as well. They're both tied together, so it's pointless to cover it up.

I have a hard-wired one on another vehicle from these guys: https://trackmategps.com/

You can check vehicle location anytime and setup GPS fences to get text/email alerts if your vehicle leaves that area. When the vehicle is moving, you can see it real-time on a map. You can also check battery voltage which is useful if the vehicle won't be driven for a while (this feature tipped me off to a discharging car battery which turned out to be a bad battery). It also has a back up battery so it works a few hours if the car battery is disconnected. You can also do history reports on where the vehicle has been.

If you can install a car stereo head unit on an older car (back when it was just a few wires) you can install this. You'd need a few fuse taps and the Meso customs fuse box cover for the under dash fuse box which has clearance for fuse taps (OEM one likely doesn't).

There is a monthly fee but it's cheap. There is also the privacy concern of yet another company knowing where you go and how fast you got there...

This appears to be exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

I just ordered an OBD locker as well.

Totally get it but, if you want to "hold on to it" then explain how a GPS tracking device is going to do that, since it is an "after the fact" device ?

Here is an idea: If you want to prevent your truck from being stolen skip the useless GPS (seriously) and spend the money on STOPPING the thief, and not TRACKING the truck which again, is useless.

Your logic is similar to putting GPSs on all your household items but leaving the front door open in an attempt to make sure nothing gets stolen. Makes zero sense.

Are you really going to grab your Glock and start hunting down the perps by following the trail on your smart phone as you pedal furiously behind them on your mountain bike? Probably not ;-)

I have already spent money on STOPPING the thief. I have an alarm, I turn off the FOB whenever possible, and just ordered the OBD lock. Your point about my logic is a false analogy. Not leaving any door opens. Just covering both ends. Prevention and possible recovery.

I recovered an Iphone a couple years ago using tracking. I had accidently left it in an Ihop and didn't realize it for a couple of hours. Used the Find my Iphone feature on my wife's phone to track it to a house in Coachella. I showed up at the house, called the cops and when they got there, had them approach and ask for the phone back. Got it back intact, turned out it was a busboy.

Who the hell knows what would happen if the truck got stolen and what I would do, but it makes me feel better having it and that's all that really matters.
