    +/- 42k I'm good. I'd roll one for a DD.

Wouldn't be surprised if it touches $50k. Base Golf R is already at $45k.

I was always pretty skeptical of the Chevy Corvette as well.

Like you, classics. I have recently been looking at Chevy II or Chevelle's (67) and my heart sank a little. Gonna have to wait for a slight recession.... For that kind of money... I would purchase something else.

I'm a TA fan as well:

    2002 FireHawk

One of my all time favorite cars. This one was built and had 440HP to the rear wheels without the 150 shot. Lots of custom work.

    FH3.jpg trans1.jpg transmotor.jpg

I will tell you this...that TA was nothing compared to my stock 2012 GrandSport Corvette. They are just in a whole different class all together. The TA was ridiculous to say the least and a VERY fun street car and on the drag strip it was hella fun. When the Corvette was put on a track that is when I really found out the capabilities and the engineering behind it.

    Corvette2.jpg Corvette3.jpg GS.jpg

    Strong points on Corvette:

-Very affordable. Not just purchase price, but maintenance isn't all that bad.

10.5 qts of oil and filter that you can do yourself. Try that with a Porsche or some other high performance "affordable" sports cars that cost 1500.00.

Brakes are reasonable until you get up to the Z06/ZR1 with Carbon brakes. Then it gets a little spendy, but nothing like a GTR or Porsche. One of my buddies with a 911T was 16K for brakes and rotors.

Motors...while 7800.00 is expensive for an LS3 430HP complete crate motor (half if you order long block), whereas a GTR used motor is around 15-19500.00. The LS series motors are arguably one of the most reliable pushrod motors you can purchase (not saying I haven't popped one:D....or two.)

    Downsides:

Anything below 40* and these cars can be sporty. I would hate to see what snow tires cost....and yes I have seen a Z06 in the snow. Always can tell when someone blows their whole wad on a vehicle.

Every tuner car wants to race you...especially the 35 year old honda turbo guys.

Tires last about as long as a pizza at a college frat party. Most I ever got was 8K miles on a set and should have swapped them at 5K.

Corvette seats suck. Not sure about the C8. Haven't sat in one of those. C7Z06 improved. Hell my TA had nicer seats.

I guess it depends on what you want and are looking for. This would be a perfect commuter car for this guy though. 300HP is my min for a commuter, AWD would be nice (since my Lexus IS350 is RWD), and it would be a hoot to drive. I would guess this Corolla will be 40+K, and for that cost I would look elsewhere. (Lexus, GM, Audi)

If Jeremy Clarkson can do an American tour in a ZR1…probably not too bad. I’m kinda wondering how many sets of rear tires he went through?

Hoping to pick a used Core in a couple years. I hope they add more colors as I'm not sure excited about any of them at the moment. I have an '05 Corolla as a DD that I love but 300hp would be awesome.

I think weirdly enough that this is the target demographic…… the people this is really going to sing to in numbers won’t buy it for $40k. That’s why the GTI outsells the Golf R by miles

Boy this thread has been high jacked. :D

Let's return it to it's regularly scheduled programming.

    MY23_GR-Corolla_Core_05.jpg

I came to age in the 80s. I'm 53 now. So back in my later teens into my early 20's I cut my teeth on Hondas, Nissans and Toyotas....Civics, Civics Hatches, CRXs, FX16s, MR2s, 240s, etc, etc.

Back then guys who were my age now were into Vettes. Has such, it just seemed like an old guys car. Now in middle age, I'm the old guy. But I still have a fondness for the Japanese cars of my youth and Vettes still don't register on my radar. And every Cars and Coffee I go to I'm reminded why.

I don't care about "bang for the buck" or a 10th of a second here or there nonsense or whatever for that matter.

For me it's a no-brainer. I'll take the 'Rolla-on-steroids" in a heart beat over the gold chain-mobile. It brings back those lost years of my youth.

Yep. I grew up with stick shifter Subarus. My brothers and I all drove them. The nostalgia is real.

That is Bishop’s Castle. Some really great roads on the way up.
That 4th picture is in Westcliffe, CO coming back down from the castle. Good place to stop and have some drinks.
Our normal route: Colorado Springs down 115 to Canon City/Florence>Wetmore>CR165 to the castle>165 backtrack to CR96>CR96 to Westcliffe at the base of the Sangre De Cristo mountain range (most 14ers range)>then backtrack.

Holy crap. Guess we are closer in age than I thought.

The tuner crowd had its place and some of the cars were very impressive.

I’m sure it would be fun. Even more so in the winter with AWD. Those pansy Corvette boys are stuck at home waiting for summer.
