Has anyone ever added a drivers side pull or grab handle to help get into the truck. I hate using the steering wheel for that purpose.

Just like a horse- Put your left leg in the stirrup and throw your right leg over the saddle. I use the steering wheel but put my left leg on my slider bar (or steeping you have one) first and use that along with using the steering wheel to step up and put my right leg in and then pulling to get my butt centered on the seat before sitting down. The less you put the full weight of your butt and body on the outside corner of the seat the less damage it will have in the long run.

I have the ktjo driver's side grab handle but to be honest I never use it. The main reason I got it was so that the two sides would be symmetrical. It just bothered me that there was a grab handle on the passenger side but not the driver's.

Kjto is the only way you’ll get an oem style handle. There are plenty of recorded issues on quality/fit.

I had issues on install for both driver and recently the rear. But made it work after tweaking a few things and twisting/forcing.

This is a hot button topic for some on here mentioning ktjo but I got one of the first grab handles she sold it was pretty easy to install everything went together fine and I’ve never had an issue with it and I use it daily. Now I’m 6ft 190lbs so your mileage may very. As to grabbing the steering wheel again how big are you since I’ve seen a few pulled out of shape by some big guys getting into their trucks so.:notsure:

I'm a big hoss. Lift with your legs, use your arms to stabilize. If people are swinging their full weight on the wheel like a stripper pole they need to take lessons on ingress and egress.

I have seen people talk about needing "help" when getting into the truck, and are desirous of a grab handle on the left side or drivers side. I honestly do not understand how it is so hard to get in the truck and needing a grab handle? I just stick my right leg in, and get in. But what I HAVE heard, several times, from others who HAVE installed a left side grab handle, is that after doing it, they realize why one did not come on there in the first place, because it is somewhat in the way of vision when looking out the windshield, and also, it just sticks out too much. I don't know personally, that is just what I have read in Tacomaworld quite a while back.

I've had a gastrocnemius flap on the right knee and don't have full movement of my right leg. An A-pillar grab handle would make getting in and out of the truck easier for me. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find one.

Just cause you don't have a problem doesn't mean that some have.
Things like old age making joints stiff, painful, and not flexible are real issues.
So is arthritis that can be quite disabling,
As can old injuries that never healed.
You shouldn't judge others by your personal situation and condition.
A drivers side grab handle on other vehicles is very useful to many.

My interest in grab handles goes way back. My 2000 Ford Ranger came with one grab handle on the passenger side, above the door, and nothing on the driver side. I went to the trouble of getting the "A" pillar trims for the Mazda B3000 (a Ranger clone) that had grab handles for both sides. Never had to use them, but the truck somehow seemed more complete with them. (I also added parts from the Ford Explorer -- overhead console -- and Mercury Mountaineer -- double visors with lighted vanity mirrors.) That truck is now 25 years old, but I'm still enjoying it.

The same thinking carried over to the Tacoma. I actually ordered the driver's grab handle from KTJO even before taking delivery of the truck. Others had a long wait, but I got mine within a couple of weeks.

Whoa! I DID NOT JUDGE ANYONE. Look at my comment. I said "I do not UNDERSTAND...". And guess what? I AM one of those who are in the "old age" category and I have no problems at all getting into the truck. I still don't "understand" the need for a left side handle, which by many accounts of those who have installed one, in the end, they realize that it gets in the way.

On a stock pavement princess it's usually fine. When you're lifted 3" plus 35" tires it's a different story. Even worse if it's on uneven terrain where there may be a dip in the ground, so the step-up height is higher. The handle also helps in tight parking spots where you can't open the door past the second detent.

nothing quite like grabbing a handfull of bird chit up on the roof to get into the truck. all trucks should have a grab handling on all a and b pillers. no queston. its what sets us apart from cars and minivans. and actually they should have them too.
