It IS pretty nice when you're trying to get through a slow or boring night.

Plus as an extra added bonus, I get to but some of my buddies' balls on Facebook tonight. I watched a Jeeper biff it over the curb in the snow tonight, so all my jeeper friends are hearing about it.

It's hard for me to leave at all at night, even for food. For emergency pages I have a <5 minute response time window, I'd REALLY hate to miss one or be late!

 

Likewise. No way I could ever leave here but working 12+ hour shifts for this long you certainly learn to adapt. I pack a mean work bag.

 

No doubt - you really have to!

It feels like I've worked 12s forever. I don't think I'd even know what to do on an 8-hr shift.

 

Tried it once for about 4 months & felt like a fish outta water. Why prolong a work week & more commutes? Get ‘er done, Son! More time to do whatever else plus if I time it right, I burn only 2 vacation days to get almost 2 weeks off.

 

We do what we call 3x4x12s - 3 12-hr shifts one week, 4 the next.

I can get 11 days off for taking 3 off, not bad at all!

Plus I get 4 days off every other week, so that really helps with getting errands and other goofing off done.

 

I get grocery shopping done faster than a rodeo event. Never any lineups. Saturday shopping is for folks who don’t want to buy anything. I forget all the time, not everyone can do this for this long. Feel like the wrong kind of 1% sometimes.

 

It can be pretty socially isolating on the wrong end of the week, though.

Oh yeah!

I try like hell not to work on my favorite holidays (Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas Eve), but even that can be hard. I try not to be a greedy bastich, but MAN do they ever shove stacks of cash to work them! Triple-time plus a generous shift differential, it can be hard to turn down.

 

Absolutely! Leaving here on a stat. sometimes I feel like a bandit but hey, you gotta hay while the sun shines.

Bustin' my can on this off-shift is getting me caught up on retirement savings and getting some nice mods for the Taco, stuff I wouldn't be able to do nearly as well working a regular shift.

 

Oh ya! Wife’s daughter woulda never gone thru Harvard & the only thing I worry about mods is when can I install them.

 

Damn, that's one hell of a nice accomplishment!

No kids for the wife and I, but we did get our house paid off a couple of decades early.

 

Never fails. You either get “We never see you” or “Don’t you ever work”?
