Good plan. I attempt a similar plan, I like to zero the checking account right before payday.

If you're shooting for being debt free, it's most definitely worth the hassle!

After we got there, our credit scores starting dropping like a stone, so we try to maintain a couple of trade accounts to keep our scores up.

I have my truck payment (if the SHTF though, it's easy to pay off), and a rewards Visa I use to pay bills that I kill off every payday. It's not much, but it's pretty damned cool to get paid by Visa for using their services!

Its a wonderful feeling being debt free. Taxes and insurances are never going away unfortunately.

Confirmed EF1 tornado passed through town this morning about 3/4 mi from my house. Coincidentally, my wife and I were awake with both kids but there was no warning issued. Sounded crazy. Luckily no injuries.

All I owe on is the taco. I use a cc for gas and groceries which gets paid as soon as the statement comes in to keep the credit score up. However, with buying a house, we will be taking on another debt.

Mine dropped because I got a little spend happy on the CC last month. Used up half the credit line. Of course I paid it off in full before I had to pay any interest but, they still saw more than 30% usage and dropped my score.

    Yep!

Some's invested, some's liquid. All things considered right now personally, I'm a little more liquid than I would be normally - but that's OK.

Emergency funds are just that, it's nice having it though!

    It happens.

My advice? Get a good rewards card that you can use for utilities and things, and just pay it off every payday. My Amazon card (Visa) has ATROCIOUS interest rates, but the cash-back on it is sick!

Have them pay YOU for once, ya know?

Agree 100 percent. I do the same with my discover card.

My bonus money from discover goes directly to my Amazon account.

The only advantage I can find getting an Amazon Visa is the introductory cash money for purchases.

I really like dealing with discover. Never, ever have I not talked to an English first person when I had issues.

People with an Indian accent with the name "Mike" make me skeptical.

CT had like 4 separate ones pass through about 3 months ago, it really messed things up. Again no real warning. The north east seems to be experiencing stronger & stronger T-Storms than in the past. This is supposed to be a mid-west issue...

I used discover for the longest time but they pretty much gutted their rewards. I used to get 5% on anything automotive it was sweet. Then they dropped it to 2% and added a monthly cap.

I went to the Citibank double cash which is basically 2% on any purchase, no cap. And I use my Amex blue for 3% at the grocery store. I might start paying for the preferred Amex blue to get the 6% at grocery stores and I think 3% on gas & 2% on all else.

I always take every reward as a cash back on the next statement, otherwise I would just use it for toys instead of savings.

    I feel your pain.
I enjoy my job but it becomes excruciatingly boring at times. My wife is at home and I just wish I was there too.
