That's exactly what that is. The radio you have is called a dual band. It does 2m and 70cm. Those are the two big ones. The antenna for those is significantly smaller than a CB antenna.

That link has the antenna with the mag mount that plops right on your roof, and the connector that screws right into where your antenna on your hand held it.

 

Ok. I'd probably go with one that mounts on a bracket somewhere

Cool. That gives me something to look into The radio isn't gonna be here for a month. I want an ARB front bumper, so may be able to mount it up front.

 

I went with a cheap one. If I like it, I don't mind upgrading, if I don't not a big hit.

 

I scored a 31% on the first practice test without looking at anything.

There's also this deal called APRS which is dope. We had a ride up here doing the back roads for a waterfall tour. We had guys from VA, NY and PA. Using radio and or your phone you can basically flip on a beacon, and they can find you if they know your call sign .it can even track if you report it. So if people are from out of town and meeting you deep in a trail or woods, they can now pull this up and see exactly where that hard to find trail head is and where to go.

You can also text message through it and do a ton of stuff. It's not an every day thing. But it's handy. Even if you break down in a no cell area. A stranger might pop up on the map. You could call out to him and he could call a truck for you.

 

Solid antenna right there. Same one I put on when I get out of the truck.

 

Sounds like it's a good safety feature.

Should be a good weekend. Hopefully wrapping up my Aux fuse pannel. Redoing the wiring for the Ham radio to it.

Also picked up some caliraised ditch lights that look pretty neat. Can't wait to see how they do in the wood.
