It's common life for a lot of us to ice fish during the winter. Rattles a lot of new guys when they hear the ice cracking and thumping in the middle of winter and feel all the vibrations from the ice moving

 

That would freak me out. I've seen small ponds have a thin layer of ice on them(still clear, not cloudy white). I would never test it out by walking on it though

 

When it's making noise is the safest. Hardest thing for some to understand. Means the lake is making ice and it's expanding onto shore. You only need 3-4" to walk on safely. 6" for sleds and quads. 10" you could drive a 1ton out if you want. Most don't. Never know where a spring will make a thinner ice spot. It's common to have a steady 8-14" ice in my neck of the woods.

 

Yeah I've only seen ones that would shatter if you threw a rock out there

Up at 5:15 with the 2 yo on a “day off.” Have to go to Boston Children’s Hospital for a specialist for our 5 month old this morning. Drive will suckkk.

 

I never understand this either. They buy pizza lunches here all the time. Can't keep your eyes open an hour later. Napping on the job is a no, no.
