I have an idea for a bed extension for the Taco but I'm not a fabricator. I wonder who I should talk to.

 

What you looking to do

 

Replace the tailgate with a longer reinforced frame with braces going to the tailgate latch bars. It would in effect be a 3-6 foot long extended and reinforced tailgate. Possibly with a built in fold or slide out ramp + reinforcement from the tow hitch.

 

The biggest thing will be that it'll act like a lever. You'll have to build it into the length of the bed to support it. Also, check local laws on how far out you can build off the tailgate. I think for structures we are allowed 18" past the tailgate and 3' from the hitch

Basic drawing. No drill or modification to the truck. Uses the existing tailgate mount points.

What do you plan to do with it?

 

A Harley, lumber, etc. I'm only about 25% serious about it at the moment because I have a trailer, but I hate trailering and I'm just exploring how I could possibly get around it.
