Any noise prevents me from sleeping it seems. I usually wear earplugs if I'm falling asleep early enough in the day and don't have to worry about sleeping through an alarm for work.

For me it seems the more light I'm exposed to on my drive home the worse my sleep is usually. On cloudy days (rare here) I sleep much much better and also if I stay up until 16:00 I can sleep through until 23:20 when my alarms are set to go to work.

Lately I have been crashing at noon and I wake up around 4 or 5 but cannot go back to sleep.

Best thing would be to dark the room you sleep in all the way out. Put some ghetto foil on the windows and turn the air down. mmmm.... Sleep

    How is everyone tonight?
Not in this thread, at least from my experience. Melissa is a regular here. I think some nights folks are busy and some nights they are less busy. :notsure:

2 hrs into the shift and all the plans are complete. Unless something comes up, it's gonna be a slow shift. Easy money. :)

    Welcome Austin.

Where in AZ are you? My oldest son and his family just moved to Phoenix two months ago. How long have you been in the 911 dispatch gig? I worked command and control (emergency management/command post) on active duty. Thought about getting into the 911 dispatch field when I retired, but then this job opened up in the same squadron I was in on active duty when I retired.

Nice! 911 dispatcher for Phoenix fire department, and firefighter/emt reserve for Verde Valley Fire District in northern Arizona.

exactly ... I swore off management and high stress when I retired from active duty ... Got my share of that in the first 26 yr career. I intend to earn my second retirement check at a slower and easier pace. ;)

From my limited stint in management I do not think it's for me, but I'm trying to avoid stress (as I say that working nights... :p) in my life. I saw what it did to my Dad (30+ years in automotive) and do NOT want to go down that path even if that means I make a bit less money.

Very cool! I work for Phoenix fire department in dispatch. I like it a lot. Definitely like being on the other side of the radio out in the field more but it's a good gig. I've been on the job just about a year now. That sounds like an awesome career you had. Thanks for your service!

 i think we're gonna look for a place down there eventually ... Since that's were our grandkids are now, I can see us either snowbirding between here and there or just simply moving there when I fully retire. Maybe not Phoenix, but within 2-3 hrs of there. Nothing definite, but an idea my wife and I are considering. :notsure:

"This" My dad retired from the refinery here and my entire life I knew how much he hated every day of it. I might make much less but my boys will never hear me complain about my job. I honestly work for my days off but I'm excited to go to work.

Definitely a nice area during the winter. Summers get rough, but it's a common trend for folks to come down in the winter and head back up in the summer. My grandparents do the same from Chicago

Couldn't agree more. Although I only fight fire part time right now, looking to get into a full time career spot. Best and most rewarding career there is.
