Have you thought about one of those Generac home generators?

My good friend has one and it runs off natural gas, we’d have to get a tank installed on the property to run one of those for a total cost of likely over 8k. I’m looking at the dual fuel portable ones that I’ll have an electrician wire in an outdoor outlet. 7000-10000 watts to just power the fridge, freezer. well pump and possibly heat if needed.

Gotcha. I've never looked at those things, just ran across them while looking at the small quiet Generacs

    Jeez. 8k for that.
Might as well just go for solar with a battery backup. Just avoid the problem altogether lol.

Solar isn't big around here. I don't think the power company pays out like in other places...……...or maybe we're just backwoods rednecks

Ah, we get ~250 days of sun a year or something like that so it's fairly popular here. Only issue is it hails bad enough to damage panels every now and then. Utility company pays back too.
Eventually when we get our own place I'd like to get into all that.

I’d have to cut too many trees down, and a solar system (non-lease) would be approx 25-30k up front.

    Damn.
Buddy of mine got quoted ~11k for his place out here. He moved away and rents it out now though.
Too much hassle to maintain them from another state.

I think it's the fact the power does pay back is the big problem here. Alabama Power is almost a monopoly
Damn, didn't realize it was that exspensive

Not to mention the wear and tear and extra weight on the roof... we get a good amount of snow so that would only add to the load.

Fucking fraud detection thinks it wasn’t me who ordered a generator and declined the purchase. Shit better not get sold from under me. As it is, I’ll have to drive an hour to pick it up.

    Shit.
My bank does that for "unexpected" big purchases.
Probably just trying to get me to re-think it... "Do you really need that goosegear?"

Also doesn't look like it's been updated in a while...
"A 30% federal tax credit is currently available through 2016 for installing a solar energy system."

    Tell that to my wife.
