    I never grasped the concept of it being safer....cause if a car got to that point.....you're both gonna be up shit creek. I just learned it from my dad.

    That’s how I knew mine was the one, met her while owning a TJ, no power anything. First date after dinner I got her door for her (as I still do to this day 11 years later) and she reached over and unlocked mine.

    It didn't originate from it being safer. It had to do with when sewage and shit ran through streets and people dumped chamber pots out windows. The person closer to the building was less likely to get literal shit dumped/splashed on them.
