We work 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off... So it's 7 days every 14 days, 3 day weekend every other weekend. Has it's perks, but can be exhausting as well...

That's an awesome schedule. It breaks the work week apart very well. But I know it's a pain when you are trying to cover somebody though!.. You end up working straight days on 12 hour shifts...

I used to get 3 straight days off every week.. Enjoyed it for a year then I took this part time night shift job, which leaves me with 2 half days off in between 2 jobs.

Umm... No thanks! Lol fortunately the AF pays me enough to stick with one job lol

We used to do 24 hour shifts during my internship because apparently it was to prepare us for 36hour shifts when we proceed to Med School. I don't know how we did it but it was very fun. 4 years later, I highly doubt that I would want to do it again.

Don't think I have the tenacity to make it through med school lol I do plan on going to PA school when I separate from the AF in a few years. I already have paramedic under my belt which will help as a part time job.

Well, luckily I still get to do things not just for the money. I'm only doing this for now, primarily just to get more experience. My 2nd job is a Level II Trauma center so there is more action here.

Go for it!... PA school would be an awesome fit with your current background. I strive to do the things that people tell me I can't do.

They told me I can't do 2 jobs and switch over from Day shift and night shift within every week. I'm on my 6 month now and getting better at it.

I actually didn't go thru being a doctor after completing my Pre-med. I moved to California and got my CLS license. I work in the lab and working on being a Blood Bank specialist, that's why I like it here even if it is a night shift position. My 1st job deals with a lot of oncology patients too so being a Specialist in Hematology is on the table. I got about 7 more months to decide before I apply for the certification.

That's the fairest, and usually best accepted schedule for 24/7 coverage. I used it whenever possible during my active duty years running op centers. 20 yrs ago, when manning was high, once worked that schedule with 8 hour shifts ... almost made you feel guilty. I don't miss 12 shifts now that I'm civil service.

Awesome! The lab has always piqued my interest, but I love the emergency services! Never know what's going to walk through that door or dial 911...

I would much rather be on a 24 hour schedule myself, and it's possible that we'll be changing to that soon. But soon in the AF usually means a year or so... as I'm sure you know lol

Yeah, if only a year. ;) So ya'll would work like FD does? Would that mean some sort of sleeping quarters arrangement? Just curious and interested.

I was Command and Control on active duty ... our regs/instructions limited shift length (on the console) to 12 hrs.
