Fellow Type 1 here. Yeah, stuff ain't cheap. Luckily, my insurance with the city I work for is (for the most part) pretty good on prescriptions. Some things could be better, but it beats out of pocket expenses. My last doc told me to sign up for GoldRX (downloadable app). For basically $6 a month, the price on the app vs. my copay on some meds (i.e. blood pressure and cholesterol) are cheaper (like 10-12 difference). That alone makes up the difference in paying the $6 a month.

GoldRX isn't insurance, but can help get even some stuff knocked down to reasonable cost. Especially when it's been a tight month.

Not sure about you, but I get the Walmart brand meter and test strips. For $9, it's 50 strips. I'm sure a prescription for $10 copay would get 200, but just isn't worth it in my book.

The hospital I work at has a Diabetes Treatment Center. As long as I follow their guidelines, I get my stuff for free. I just swapped to the Libre 14 day continuous glucose monitoring. Checking my blood sugar was always the worst part for me.

    And War Eagle :D

I would love to get one of those, but holy Jesus! My insurance said "nope." And quickly.

But I'm curious about that continuous monitoring though: is it similar to an insulin pump when has something going under the skin and do you have to change out sites every so many days before it gets infected?

I only ask cause when I was at Ole Miss, I had an insulin pump. Suffice it to say, it wasn't my fav piece of technology. After I got out of college (and off my mom's insurance), I had to revert back to shots. Which to be fair, I don't really mind the shots.

This one goes on the back of my arm and lasts for 14 days. I just scan it with my phone and it goes to the app. I tried the one that was synced to my insulin pump, but the DTC doesn't cover it and it was $600 every 5 weeks even after insurance. I didn't use that but once.

Always wondered how those things worked, I remember years ago my uncle had one of the ones on his stomach.

My insulin pump is attached to an infusion set on my stomach. I change that site about every 3 days.

The COVID vaccine company (Pfizer) is the same one that makes Viagra.
