Good luck! I accepted a job in August. I was following up weekly, then monthly, then every other month for updates. I did some research on the background investigation, and it could take up to a year. So now I will just wait until spring :notsure:

I guess good thing is, is that its all nights, not this half afternoon/half nights that Im on now. Bad thing is, its Tues-Sat. So goodbye to social life

Not much going on here. Couple 15-20 minute fixes but nothing catastrophic. Pulled the check engine light codes from my truck on lunch, it is quite the list

    thanks Murph!
Unfortunately, it was just an invitation to apply.

I’ve been contemplating getting out of this type of work but I’m already 2 years shy of being 1/2 way to retirement and don’t wanna start over as a rookie somewhere.

One of the millwrights I work with just switched from a textile mill to our sawmill at 62 y/o, complete learning curve for him, only thing that swapped over for him was our electrical systems. You got this buddy!

Just trying to figure out a decent pair that will last a while and doesn't cost a fortune.
    Poking around on r/goodyearwelt..
Looking at Chippewa, Red Wing, or Canada West.. Probably go with Red Wing since they have an actual store I can go try them on here.

I can vouch for steel blue if you need steel toe work boot. Nice side zip, decent breath ability. Not great water resistance though. I'm at 6 months of 60-70 hours a week in mine and no real complaints.

edit: The model I have is a molded rubber something or other sole, no welt. So sadly once they're done, there's no re-soling them

I'm always leery about ordering shoes/boots offline.

Nah, don't need steel or anything. Won't be using it for actual "work-work".
Just looking for something to wear day to day that's made with some quality and can handle a couple resoles.
Yeah, I don't bother with that. Too much hassle figuring out size and QC.
Chippewa sells in store at some retailers but none around here, apparently. There's a couple Red Wing stores here I can go to though, which is why I'm probably just gonna go with them.
Canada West, I would have to go over the border next time I visit home. (Probably not anytime soon)

I know everyone's foot is different, but I've got a set of ariats that I find wicked comfy. No toe protection though so I can't wear them at work. Which is pretty much my entire life now

I had an old pair of Ariat ropers that lasted a while. Those and my Danners I had in the army were the most comfortable things ever.
I have another pair of Ariat now but they're not quite as comfy as the first pair I had.
Looking for lace-up style. (Red Wing Iron Ranger, Wolverine 1000-Mile, Chippewa Apache)

I'm a sucker for laziness when it comes to footwear... I'll spend good money on a quality pair, but I don't want to be bothered with laces most of the time. So most of my shoes are "old man" shoes as my friends call them.

I have a pair of slip on Dockers that my wife calls my 'old man' shoes. I had the same idea of not wanting to tie shoes lol.. Hell, the ones I have on have a zipper on the side.
I'd be willing to tie my shoes if it means they'll last me a long time though. Sick of paying a bunch for foam/pleather/plastic that falls apart super fast and has no repairability.

If it were up to me though, I'd wear flops 24/7...

I have a pair of 5.11 with side zip. They've been a nice pair of boots.
