We use EPIC now. World headquarters is in Verona (huge complex) I don't deal directly with patient care so I don't deal with EPIC, but the nurses and doctors seem to like it.

She sleeps while I work, I sleep when she works.

 

Well, I don't have the option of flipping or not lol, I do 4 and 4, and my rotations swaps from nights to days every 4. I usually just stay up super late the night before a night shift ao I can sleep all day, and then usually try to grab just a few hours in the morning after night shift so i can go to bed with the wife that evening. Its hard with a 1 year old and the wife working, she pretty much stays at the in laws house when I work because her Mom babysits for us lol

 

Cerner. Heard good things about epic, but I've never used it

 

I work 6-12's on then have 8 days off repeatedly. First day on I sleep as soon as I get home and as my 6 days go on I stay awake later and later into the day and sleep later so when I get off of my last shift on the 6th day I stay awake pretty much all day and am back to sleeping at night for my 8 days off. Then start the cycle all over again when I start my work week. It's worked for me for 2-1/2 years now.

 

72hrs. every 2 weeks. Nice. 8 days off. Nicer! I wish I could swing a deal like that. Unfortunately the hospital is 24/7 and I'm support so I need to be there.

 

hmm...anyone now using epic that has used IBEX in the past? which is better? as if I had a choice.

 

This made me laugh. I work 7 days a week. Have for the last almost 6 months. My sleep schedule is so screwed it's not funny. I just got off a 3 day zero sleep stretch. One day I get off at 7 be asleep by 745 sleep till 5pm. Some days I'm up till 3 sleep till 7. All depends on the day.

What made me laugh, when people talk about my sleep or lack there of it. I laugh and say at least I don't have an important job.....
I work on airplanes.....a lot of high power 4 jet engine dyno runs (for a lack of better terms) using lots of high psi gasses, and tight tolerance measurements on installing and calibrating parts.

 

All well and nice, but have you ever wondered why your manuals are called "TO"s (Technical Order) miss a line or step because your tired, you just disobeyed a direct order. Not trying to hate on you. But the human body can only take so much sleep deprivation. Then there will be consequences. I've done my share of 24hr duty and middle of the night guard duty. Once I came off duty, climbed into my rack and some hard ass Warrant Officer comes over kicks my rack asking me what the hell do I think I'm doing... Almost took a swing at him. Sleep deprivation messes with your judgment. So that in a nutshell is why I stay on schedule. I'm off tonight, did the overhead consol dimming control mod and watched a movie

Yep.....

 

Working tonight and tomorrow night. My partner who should get a 3-day weekend gets Mon. night, no holiday pay. We asked why one of us isn't getting a 3-day weekend supervisor told us "it just doesn't work out for 3rd shift"

 

I like his logic.

 

He thinks 3rd shift only has 6 days in a week.

 

I like his style.

 

Might be switching to first shift with weekends off!

 

What!!! No weekends is even an option??? What kind of crazy world is that
