GraveYard Shift BS

It's rough. 7 days 3rd 2 days off, 7 days 2nd 1 day off and 7 days of 1st 4 days off.

 

That's how it was for me with an additional 4 days of training week after the three shifts, then the 4 days off. Do not miss that at all nor envy you that shift schedule takes its toll. How long have you been on it?

 

I've been on it for 3 1/2 years. It does take its toll. If I didn't make as much money as I do I definitely wouldn't be doing this. As long as I'm on 8 hours it's bearable. When my relief calls off I have to work 16 hours and I'm on 12s when people are on vacation. That's what really bothers me. 2nd shift is hard when my 9 year old daughter is in school, I only see her 1 hour in the morning when I get her ready and drop her off .
I did 6 on 1 off for 4 years back in 2004 so I'm a little used to crazy schedules.

 

just hanging out on the clock... About to go on vacation and want a little extra OT on the check when I get back.

 

Props to you. When I did it, it was 12's all the time. Luckily it was "only" for about 3 years... Makes for a long week when you don't get to see the family that much. Wife and I would talk for a few minutes while she got ready for work. Her with coffee and me with Jack

 

If we hang out over 6 minutes past shift, we get red boxed on time sheet and a nasty email... Hard to milk OT that way. Most of the time I'll clock out and shoot the breeze with the days guys for a few minutes.

 

Hour and a half for me and im done till sunday nite.

 

1.5 hours here... then 2 hours OT coverage for a guy coming in late. But it counts as Daywalker time. Sun will be up. It's funny how this place looks so different during daytime. and there's hardly any windows on my side

When I work OT on fri nites, this place is eerie. Lights are off and you might see 1 other person the entire nite.
The bay is supposed to be 1/4 mile long and you can see all the way to the other end of the plant.

 

What do you guys do? I work at a paper mill.

I'm a gas turbine tech/machine operator.

There is quite a few people here on nights, skeleton crew comparatively, but some people to run into at least.

I'm at a semiconductor plant in operations.

 

I just changed mine from 1am start time to 4am start time

 

Idk about that.
The machine operator part is..load a part, whatch it spin for 4 hrs, remove part.
Wash, rinse, repeat. Lol

 

Im a sparky and the mall we working at doesnt want anyone here past 10am but i say fuck that sometimes

 

Man 4am would be awesome. or 5. Either way; no traffic going in or on the way home!

 

If i were to start at 6 and get off at 230 i would sit in a hour and a half traffic to go 25 miles .. right now its 20 min to work 25 min home love it

 

Different cities, different traffic patterns?
Our build up doesn't start until 6ish, and 3pm

 

When you watch the new guy doze off in front of the camera on his 3rd night on the job.... I guess I'll eternally be stuck on night shifts...
