Naps are encouraged on our break to "stay sharp" but most of us hit up the 24hr gym down the street and use adrenaline instead.

We weren't on break. Both I and my supervisor were writing reports. He was just chillin in the front because he was too new to do anything else.

    I wish I had a job that encouraged breaks. That's crazy.lol

    Not that crazy...
Some of my old college roommates who are on the job are encouraged to participate in radio silence in the wee hours of the morning on overnights. if not dispatched, don't look for trouble.

    Back on for Monday 3.

Just Austin for me. Would like to travel to other sites abroad to see them and the differences. I'm sure I could find a way to spin it for the company to pay for it

We are told it's OK to take a nap on our lunch break in the break rooms, as long as you are actually in the break room where you can be found. Mostly I just walk around the site and try and stay moving. We have a gym here but it closes at 20:00. Would be nice if it was open to us for a lunch break workout.

I tried once taking a nap over my lunch. It just feels weird to me sleeping at work and I couldn't. Now back in the Navy...

I take naps all the time when I have good runs.
The machine I run is called a winder. It takes a 12 ton log (giant roll) or paper and cuts it down to certain sizes that each customer orders. Some orders keep you busy but mostly I get about a 30min break every 40min between each log that comes off the paper machine.

Naps are not allowed. Sleeping on the job is strictly prohibidado. But being a 1 man unit away from most of the rest of the refinery, sometimes I'll be working on a computer based training and doze off. And if a supervisor happens to walk on, Im usually awake by the time they get to my office (that darn creaky door that slams that no one has fixed in a decade).
I just call it time travelling. 5 hours left on shift, all my work for the night is done? Crank the radio and phone volumes to max, toss up a training, leave my hand on the mouse.

In other news, the FNG brought this in last week to "workout during his slow days". Horse shit, dude, thats basically a fuckin cot if you lay on it. I did, for about 30 seconds and then thought to myself "this is comfy as fuck, this is how people get fired".

Theres a difference between grabbing a quick nap, and bringing a damn bed to work. Its called nesting where i work. If you go out of your way to find a place to sleep, and you get caught, its basically fired on the spot. Falling asleep at your desk, shit happens, 99% of the people do it, and 99% of the supervisors will make you buy them lunch if you get caught straight snoring, thats about it.

That's the philosophy most go by here as well. If you're fading while staring at a PC screen doing annual training, it's one thing. Turning the lights down low, shoes off, feet up... you're not trying. It's when you see someone sleeping and you offer to sit in for them so they can go walk around and stretch and they get defensive. That's what irritates me. But, you can only help people so much.

I wish it were like that here. We're always on the clock though. breaks are paid. you just choose a random hour to eat.
Being the type of job it is, you need to be awake and alert at a moments notice. Although nothing usually happens here, lol.

But still you can't say that it doesn't look terrible that you're falling asleep in front of everyone on your first week on the job.

Yeah. Our lunch hour is half paid. We're 11.5 hours paid for 12 hour shift. Or we get two unpaid breaks. However you want to look at it.

First week is a tough sell to be asleep for sure. I understand a bit if you're new to night shift, it's hard to adjust to. With a new job though, I think you'd be actively enough involved to stay awake.

Whole heartedly agree. A couple control rooms already got in trouble for that. Supervisor walked in to the lights off, everyone passed out, including board operators. Luckily the unit ran itself for the most part.

And yeah, first week? Shit, at least until I was fully qualified and working my own shift before any shenanigans started. Our Area supervisor caught me all bleary eyed a few months back, had been up all night with a sick screaming baby came in and sat down, started checking emails and woke uo hearing the door slam, immediately popped up and tried to look awake but I guess it was pretty obvious I'd nodded off. She pretty much micromanaged me and showed up at turnover for 2 weeks straight. Everyone said I should report her for harassment, I just layed low for a while and kept my shit together the whole time so she didnt try to crack down harder. It is what it is.
