Well, good for you on calling him out. If no one does, it'll keep happening. Sounds like you're owed an apology, and some serious backpay. Although the latter never seems to work out :bananadead:

Been off of nights for like 6 weeks while we were undergoing a shipyard repair period. Back to work now, on my regular overnights. Anchored up in the Delaware River tonight waiting for work. Did I miss anything good around here?

So, question for my fellow 12-hr nightwalkers:

How do you manage your sleep on your days off? Do you sleep at least close to how you do on work-nights, or do you stay up all day and swap back and forth (awake days half the week, sleeping days the other half)?

I try to maintain at least a similar sleep schedule on my days off (I get up about 2:30 - 3:30 in the afternoon), but I'm not sure I'm liking that so much.

I work 14 days on 14 off so I just battle it out for the first couple days home and get on a normal rotation. It isn't easy so I am trying to change my caffeine intake at work so I am less affected at home.

I'm 3x4x12 - 3 on with 3 off, then 4 on with 4 off. Not too bad, but I'm not getting enough quality time with my wife so I'm trying to figure this out a little better.

It's funny, I don't DO a lot of caffeine and I have a really hard time getting tired even before 5 AM. I'd like to be able to go to bed by 2:30 AM if I could on my days off.

My schedule never changes unless I work OT on Fri nite. 11-7. Sun-thurs.
Fri and sat nites, I'm usually in bed by 8pm.
I really miss sleeping when it's dark out.

I work rotating 12hr shifts. Days and Nights. my "rotation" starts and goes like this: 4 nights, 3 off, 3 days, 1 off, 3 nights, 3 off, 4 days, 7 off. the 7 off is called "long change". our shifts on days start at 0530, end 1730. reverse for nights.
when i work days i go to bed at 9pm and up at 4am or thereabouts. when i work nights, i got straight to bed after i get home at 6am, then sleep till noon or 1pm. get up, mingle with my peeps, then nap for an hour before i go in at 530pm.
I only live 9 miles away from work, so not much of a commute which is awesome. I have only ever worked 12hr rotating shifts since i was 19 and joined the military in 1995. I worked 6-3am, mon-fri for a year on one job assignment and HATED it. I will never be a mon-fri dayshift, wknds off only guy ever again, it was horrible.
I love my schedule- it is long hours, but it allows for alot of time off. (two 3 day wknds, 1 day off, and a 7 day off stretch Every month) I basically work half the month. It took my now wife about a 1.5 years to get used to it, but now we flow really well with it.
Key to sleeping during day is A. Blacked out room. B. cool. C. quiet.

Nope  well not really. Just a bunch of BS. And @koditten is an artist

I flip sleep to "normal" people on my off days. usually a quick 2 hour nap after my last night and up for the day. Then on my first night back (Wed) I take a nap in the afternoon prior to work. But the wife and I usually stay up til midnightish on my off days.

But I agree with the sentiment that day sleeping sucks. But it's a necessary evil.

I work nights irregularly, some nocturnal mammal or fish (like tonight) surveys, usually 5-6 PM to 6 AM, or midnight to noon. Including the sometimes 2 hour drive each way that works out to 16-17 hour shifts sometimes. I sort of like getting 2 days worth of work in one shot. I'll admit that going to bed at 8AM or 2 PM is weird, but I'm sort of a night owl by nature, and can usually fall back into a 'normal' working-at-day/sleeping-at-night routine within 1 day. Sometimes I force myself to stay up until 6AM over the weekend if I know I'll be conducting a block of overnight work shifts the following week.

I have the same sun-thurs schedule every week so I sleep Friday morning til about noon and then get some errands done before wifey and lil man get home around 5. I TRY to stay up late with her but we put the baby down at 7-730 and then end up falling asleep on the couch after an hour or so. She's been real tired being pregnant and all with our second and I'm just always tired. Saturdays we tend to make it up til 10pm or so and get up at 530-6 with the baby. I'll try to get a couple hour nap before heading back in on sunday night from 730-930ish.

I've been doing two days, two nights and four days off for over 21 years. I usually stay up after my last night work and try a normal routine on my days off. Sometimes it does catch up to me and I find myself up during the early morning hours.

Oh wow, that's a lot more than I was thinking. I haven't went to the detailing shop that does it yet, but from what I was reading on the internet the 9H (I think that's right?) top. package is $1500. I don't think I'd go $3k. for that type of money I'd just take care of my paint as normal. If it started looking really bad, I'd look more into getting it Line-X-ed.

But that's on a truck I drive daily to work. If I had a nice sports car, like in your situation, I may pay more to keep it nicer.

    Be safe during this storm.
