I work 7 nights 2 off, 7 evenings 2 off, and 6 days then 5 off. We are scheduled for 8 hour shifts, but we can work 2 hours extra every day, and some days 4 extra. We always work 12's on saturdays.

I always take a 4-5 hour nap the day coming off of nights, right when I get off. I always sleep first thing when I get off, and usually wake up around 2-3pm. I've tried staying up all day, I just can't do it I'm falling asleep by 6pm. Nights is my favorite shift for working, but Evenings is my favorite all around shift. It's the best sleeping shift for me, but I don't have a family either, I know a lot of guys with a family hate evenings. I'd work 3-11's every day if I could. I never get great sleep on nights, and I sleep in a blacked out room with zero light in the basement. I absolutely despise days.

I work four 10-hour shifts. I think I have mastered my sleep routine after a few years of tweaking with it. I work 930pm-730am, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights.
Starting Friday morning, I wake up with my girlfriend at about 6am and start my day, then go to sleep from 3pm-8pm.
Saturday morning I get off work and try to go to bed right away, usually 9:30am. I sleep from 9:30am-5pm. I repeat this sleep time until my last day at work.
Tuesday morning I get off work, and will actually stay awake until about noon, I then sleep from 12:00pm-3pm. I then get up and have the evening and go to bed around 10pm.
The next day I wake up and get on a regular day-walker schedule. And then swap back to graveshift schedule Friday.

I found the 2 most important things about trying to sleep on graves is the blacked out windows and schedule consistency. I am very diligent in setting alarms and staying on the same exact schedule week after week.

When I'm not working overtime, I'm a weekender. So I may have 3-4 days off in between shifts. On my last day I'll either stay up and run errands or I'll sleep a few hours and get up. Then I try to sleep at night but usually wake up in the middle of the night hungry or something.

    Yeah, I got skills.

Nothing that lets me quit the graveyard rat race, though.

I heard something about a holiday. Labor something or another.

These holidays are like big foot. I've heard about them, but never actually seen one.

Swapping sleep tonight to start my 1 of 4 nights tomorrow. Had a scare with the 4wd on the new tundra. Took it to the dealer and ended up being a rock stuck up in the driveshaft somehow :anonymous: kicking myself for not at least looking under the truck first before assuming the worst.

I'm gonna let you keep the title for longest working stretch this go around

At least it was "free".... you know, just time, gas, and hassle ;). But at least it was simple and you're back on the road :burnrubber:

Oh it wasn't free. Paid for the rental and labor since it wasn't a "manufacturing defect." So $100 later I'm back good to go.

Just hate giving the dealer money for something so simple to fix.

Good news is that I've got an interview next Wednesday. Still shift though :D but would be a ~32% raise

Damn! Everything I'm applying to is an initial 6-8k pay cut but with much higher earning potential. Been in state government too long to go into the private sector.

I've got my start in the public side of the business which is on the lower end of the scale. So going elsewhere will only be a big leap pay wise. It would also open up future opportunities to get off of shift as well which is my main goal one day
