    I started turning grey at about 27, when I was an accountant. After a while, I quit my job, went to work in construction, and began drinking reg8ularly. No more grey......BUT.......I fear it will be comming back soon.....

    Yeah...that was bizzar. I went from Grey, to brown, to blonde.......now, I think its getting darker again, but julie says it does this in the wionter time....

    Gray hair is the result of the melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) dying off. This can occur from age, illness, exposure to radiation or chemicals, or extreme cold (livestock around here are commonly freeze-branded and in the PNW we freeze-branded fish for research purposes). Some people naturally get gray hair very early -- my high school football coach was completely gray at 29. I have light blond hair so it's hard to tell if some of it is gray or not, though as I'm in my mid-50s I would say that it is.

    Sometimes it takes a few years for the melanocytes to kick into gear. I have a niece who as a toddler had hair as blond as mine, now it's nearly black.
