greasable shackle question

Hi guys!
A couple of years ago, my cousin & I installed my Alcan rear leafs. They are really nice & handle great on the trails. But over the past 6 months or so, I've started to get a lot of squeaking from the rear eyes on the leafs. (Like when I pull into a driveway, you can really hear it). Seems to be coming from the rear shackles. With the install, we did put in new bushings on the front & rear eyes putting a small amount of grease on all the bushings. My question is, can I put in rear greasable shackels without having to drop the whole rear axle or take off the U bolts? Or do I have to start all over? Wheelers Off-Road has some nice sets that I'm checking out. Thanks!

 

All you have to do is support the rear of the truck and let the axle drop out just to the point the tires barely come off the ground, then you cand remove the shackles, you don't have to mess with anything else.

when I swapped my shackles all I did was support the rear axle after lifting the truck off the ground a bit.

no need to mess with the ubolts or anything else

 

If you have a Hi lift you can lift from rear (bumper?) taking most the weight off springs (but dont lift off ground) & do one side at a time if you wish, make sure to chock your front wheels..

Lifting with a hilift is sketchy enough. On the street or in a driveway is even worse. Please practice caution.

Never said to lift it off the ground & did say to chock front wheels, actually chock the front wheels in front of & behind tires take off emergency brake & put in neutral so truck settles , then proceed to take weight off of springs

 

No biggie, don't have a high lift jack, but I'll use my jack and stands for safety. Def use wheel chocks too.

 

Yeah, I gotchya but scuba is right gotta use a little common sense

Got the shackles done. It was basically an easy job. I was kinda skeptical when I started to take them apart, but it's actually pretty easy to do. Thanks a lot for the info guys, & thanks Sirsaechao (Tim) for pointing out that there were some for sale on here.
