Thanks. It's Lucas Red and Tacky.. so perhaps the tacky attribute helped in my frustration. It also had just come from a well air-conditioned auto parts store so was wondering if that contributed to the continual failures to retain prime as well. Both guns I have are cheapos so perhaps I'll at least try a name-brand or quality gun before handing over the cash for an electric. Mainly what should've been a 5 minute job turned into a charlie foxtrot situation.

That Lincoln works fine for me, pops off the zerk once in a while so perhaps that adapter is worth it - otherwise I hold the hose end with one hand and place the gun on the ground or against my body (cant quite recall) and pump with one hand . I asked about using Moly grease on all U-joints when I first bought my 1st gen truck new and was told that its fine - I asked because I believe the cardon specs moly whereas the others are gen purpose or something like that and of course changing grease types is not fun.

Very well could have been one problem. My continuous shot Lincoln pneumatic, that finally broke on me, was the easiest gun I’ve ever had to prime. When the rod was locked to the piston to pull against the spring, you could also push the rod in this same position. This meant that to change the tube, you locked the rod to the piston, unscrewed the barrel, pull and let go of the rod to chuck out the old container, lock rod/piston back collapsing spring, install new tube, then just unlock rod from barrel to allow spring pressure against grease……in this position, with this grease gun you also had the option to push on the end of the rod and it would apply spring pressure plus whatever pressure you’ve applied to the rod. When it finally primed, twist and unlock from the piston and push it up into the tube for storage.
Whatever you buy, it will pay to do your homework first, don’t just get the first one you see.
As with all of my cordless tools at work I went with snap-on, if I had done my homework first and not just bought what was in front of me at the time, I’d probably own everything Milwaukee right now.
Whichever gun you choose to purchase, read the directions, lots of times you will learn something and find out that there’s probably at least 3 different ways to refill that grease gun.

I agree. I've done some research on grease guns, and the one I will buy before my next grease job is the air-powered one made by Lincoln. It's sold at Home Depot for $62. When it's in stock, that is...

I just picked up a LockNLube pistol grip grease gun, much easier to use under the truck greasing the drive shaft.
