Im glad I found this thread. I greased the driveshaft recently and I pumped like 1/3 to 1/2 a tube into it and never saw anything come out anywhere. Did I need to use more grease?

It would take me about 3-4 pumps on each zerk to see any grease come out. I would actually hear the old stuff come out before seeing anything. It made a cracking noise as the old stuff began coming out. The zerk closest to the rear axle does not expel old grease, so just do a few pumps in that one. And one up front is not supposed to let any old stuff out either(for 4x4) At least I think so...

Haynes manual says on the slip yokes to pump in grease until it comes out of a seal. I pumped quite a bit in and didn't see anything come out, got scared and stopped. What do ya'll think?

^^^ well refer to the post above you. I think Mike has it right. Those zerks dont end up expelling anything. When I first did mine I kept pumping it in, if you get too much in it will squeeze back out of the zerk once you take the grease gun off

Too much grease in the driveshaft can blow the internal seals, as others have said you only need to put a few pumps into it.

My advice is to ditch that Haynes manual and download the factory service manual. For the price of free its worth it to have the correct info in front of you.

sooo would there be any way to extract it if you "over greased" it?

I'm not sure but if you take the zerk out and SLOWLY get the suspension to flex I have a thought that it would push the excess grease out.

This is pure speculation so if anyone knows better please feel free to correct me.

Yah idk guys. Most of my zerks had a good amount of grease in them there was 1 near the differential that took like 4 pumps before grease came out. & There was another one I just put 4 pumps in and didn't hear anything.

Also noticed it is a bad idea to use spray lithium grease on rubber. It deteriorates pretty fast. Just an fyi. Wonding if the same is true for lithium complex grease paste. Shall see soon.

Yes this is in reference to the slip yoke, the most I've ever put in a u-joint was about two pumps before it started oozing out.

I have a pistol grip style pump. fyi. Definitely does not deliver as much grease per pump as a full pump. It is still solid steel & rated at 5000psi.
