So I installed new tie rods recently because my buddy busted mine while replacing LBJs. So fun. Anyways I need to grease them, my local shop recommended just using a hypodermic needle through the boot, but of course I have reservations. Is this someone has had experience with?

    Huh?
Wouldn’t make a hole thru the boot
I mean, can be done, but you would be insuring that u need new otr ties after a period of time…..even if tiny hole

There will be a zert fitting on otr tie rod to lube…correctly

Besides poking a hole in the rubber boot, which is a bad idea in itself, you won't be getting grease to the ball of the joint, making this a terrible idea.

If there are no zerks on the tie rods for proper greasing, I wouldn’t have any problem with it at all. You would have to use about a #12 hypo though cause grease is pretty thick.
I’ve done it many times with brake fluid to free a frozen disc brake caliper: use a hypo to squirt a little brake fluid through the rubber boot surrounding the piston, and POOF! 7 times out of 10, the caliper releases! Got my brother back to Oregon from Michigan, and was free for another month after that until he changed the caliper. And NO BRAKE FLUID CAME OUT OF THE HYPO INJECTION SITE.

I guess, I'd be looking closely at the boots. If no grease staining is present, it's likely fine and needs no grease.

Should probably grease your mudflaps and antenna while you've got the syringe loaded up.

No. The tie rod end comes with grease from the factory. You run them until they develop play, then you replace them.

    I'm in the other school......

I grease the shit out of things........I have no problem using a needle
all zert fixtures have a breather hole in the rubber anyways

Its really best for something with a zert for sure.

    And purchase accordingly.....

    toyota doesnt believe in zerts.......

they believe in lined sockets instead......nylon/teflon

    drive until it fails....

I use napa for front end and skf for UJs.......these say ' grease me bitchh'

everything on the truck gets hit with the grease gun once a year.....
.......cause I dont believe in 'drive it till it falls off'.....that's crazzzy

I also fluid flim inner frame with that lonnnng straw....
tap any under chassis exposed thread with a finger dab of grease...
dab O2 threads with hightemp threadlock,....
and swap out the PS reservoir fluid at same time......kinda a round-robin

If you drive a five lug.....this is a good time to pull that outer A3 bearing and repack it...
.....I've got it down to 10min a side

It may or may not increase the usable life of the part but how can it hurt? I've been doing this for years and it has never caused a failure that I'm aware of.

I honestly was just trying to keep from buying a grease gun tbh. But I bought it and used the zerks. Easy process. Hard to believe I was quoted 130 for it.

Yeah I really like the 'Lock N lube' fitting.....but it cost more than the gun....
