It doesn't look like the pics on here at all. It sits appx 1"-1 1/2" farther forward and sticks out of the dash kit. I've tried to use other mounting holes on the side of the head unit but nothing really lines up. Which dash kit did you order? Just wondering if different manufactures kits come with mounting brackets because the one from Crutchfields did not.

Let me know if you have any problems when you install it. I may need a different kit. I worked on it for a few hours last night and had to finally leave it alone for the safety of my truck and tools. I was about to the point of throwing things and I've learned the hard way that doesn't usually solve the problem! I'll probably tear into tonight again after work.

    Dude,

Take some pics. It shouldn't matter what kit you have. You take the side brackets off the stock radio, and as far as I could tell, there was only one way to put them back on. Obviously you'll need to put the side brackets on the same side of the new stereo as were taken off the old. Even if you did do that, the holes wouldn't line up when you tried to mount it back in the dash.

That is your problem. The unit will sit too far forward if you use the stock brackets(I tried). The Scosche dash kit comes with mounting brackets which work much better.

S-O-B! So you're telling me that I need to order the Scosche kit because the Crutchfields one didn't come with mounting brackets? That sucks man!

So with the wiring harness, you have to splice the two pieces they give you together?

I used the stock metal brackets, and it sits in the dash just right...

The Scosche instructions say to use the stock metal brackets???

You will need to splice the two quick clips color for color to the one quick clip that comes with the Clarion. When you unhook the factory radio it has two small quick clips, so when you are done it should look like a "Y" connection.

Ok thats what I figured, I only noticed there are a couple colors that dont match. Did you guys use anything special to connect the wires?

There are a few wires that don't get connected like the blue power antenna wire. I used butt connectors and a crimper to make all my connections because I am a electronic technician by trade and have them laying around the house. You can also solder and tape the connections but tape will degrade with heat and time and I don't reccomend this unless you take the time to make all your connections different lengths so when the tape falls off you lessen the chance of a short. You can also use a special tape called splicing tape. It can be found at your local electrical supply store but the last roll I bought cost around $35 for one roll!. I would go with butt connectors.

I am probably going to use the butt connectors, either that or solder them and use the heat shrink stuff.

Good call, If you have access to a crimper that uses the U shaped crimp use that. I've found that the standard crimp that most people use that just sort of crushes the wire in there doesn't hold as well over time. Heat shrink and solder will work good to but I hate working with that stuff and it takes 4 times longer to do.

Are you going to rig a DVD override button? I put mine in under the dash, above the coin tray slot (automatic trans) or where the parking brake is on a manual. Easy to reach when you are driving and out of sight.

I prefer Posi-Lock connectors. They hold firm and they're reusable. I think they're easier to work with in tighter spaces as well. You can find them at some Walmarts or order them online.

We got it all set up. Where did everyone run their ground? We tapped it into ground for the radio. It wont play dvd's because it says the parking brake isnt set. I dont know if how we ran the ground is the problem or if it the switch. Any ideas?

I ran my ground the same way and it works fine. Run the parking brake wire from the Clarion to a locking open/close switch, and run the other leg of the switch to the black ground wire on the radio. If you have a momentary switch it won't work unless you hold the switch closed for a few seconds. I turn on my truck and wait for the DVD player to show that it will be audio only and then I hit the switch to break the ground, wait 1-2 seconds and hit the switch again to connect the ground and the video turns on.
