I have 3400+ miles on my '16 Sport now and am getting on average about 28 mpg which i am of course not kicking about. The truck does however feel a bit rough when it's tacking down around 1100 RPM's on a level road. Is this normal for this Atkinson cycle engine? It almost feels like a skip. but not quite. thanks for any feedback.

How are you getting 28 mpg? That's impressive.

Mostly across level roads up here. it goes down to the low 20's when i get in the hills. (Vermont/NH) I have been getting that for about 8 tankfuls now. i have even verified the odometer and done the math manually, keeping track of known distances.... it's 28.......crazy huh?

With MPG like that, I would not complain if the thing vibrated more than a lawn mower.

So you are getting close to 35% percent better gas mileage then what the EPA can get.

    Troll?

How do you drive your truck? Obviously you are keeping your rpms low, but do you keep it in drive or use shift mode? Also I'm guessing you don't use ECT.

I have a V6 DCSB OR 4x4 and am experiencing the same thing (jerky feeling). My thought is that the transmission is shifting into the higher gears too early. I've driven a manual for the last 7 years so going to an automatic has taken some getting used to. The best way I can describe it is either putting a manual into to 5th when it should be in 3rd and it lugging or driving with a burned out spark plug. I've experienced a similar jerky feeling under both situations. I've been hoping it will smooth out as I'm only around 1300 miles. If it doesn't improve soon I will be taking it to the dealer to have the trans fluid checked.

Uh oh. You will get some interesting responses from people here! That's awesome though....I don't think too many others are seeing such great mpg numbers from their 3rd Gens.

Thanks for the input. I admit I nurse the he'll out of those portions of the highway that are flat or some decline. I find I can really ramp up the mpg's by keeping it in auto and feather the gas to keep it in 6th whenever feasible, and of course keep my speed up. I don't drive it hard, but make sure to get up to my speed I want in a short yet reasonable time. I only use manual on longer hills where I know this dude will shift forever...very annoying. On the flats I gave gone for miles where the trip meter is reading in the low 30's mpg. Again, the roughness I have kind of gotten used to. I'm not sure how this right will do pulling or carrying a few hundred pounds. I had an '06 sport that felt like a powerhouse compared to this, but with 19 mpg. Overall I like this truck a lot, and am banking on toyota to keep up their end of the deal if this drive train develops anything funky. Thanks again to all.
