Couple buddies and I headed to LBL for some camping, paddling, fishing, and a little wheeling. Arrived Friday a found a nice spot in the backcountry. Paddled around a bit and hit a couple trails.

Next morning we needed to head into town for some ice and a couple other things. Sitting at a stop sign waiting to cross the highway, a Nissan Armada pulls out from across the hwy and gets t-boned by a Chevy Z71. Flips the Nissan which rolls right into my Taco.......

Me and my passengers were thankfully ok. Others went to the hospital with some minor injuries but nothing serious.
Now I don't know what will become of my beloved Tacoma. I only picked it up last year and that took forever to find. I think its a toss up on if it'll be totaled. There was one small spot where I couldn't tell if the frame sustained a dent. Other than that, heres a couple pics:

    Thoughts? Advise?
I love this truck. Just bought suspension that, luckily, I didn't have time to get on before the weekend. I would love to keep it.
Anxious to hear what State Farm has to say about it.

    Thanks.

Nice. Not everyone can say they got hit by a flipping Pathfinder and walked away cleanly.

Is that the coolant I see running out from under? Did you get the motor shut down quickly when it happened?

the front and side of radiator support needs to be changed. There's atleast 10-15 working hours to get that fixed if theres no frame/chassis damage. With cost of parts, paint, labor…theres a very good chance insurance will push to total it and put a shitty value on it, like $8k. they will say its worth 8k and has 5k in repairs and total it. That truck is worth $12k easy over here, not sure about where that guy lives.

We get hosed here. This was $3500 repair (other driver's insurance) That crash would easily be over $10k here, which would be a write-off.

    Thanks y'all.
Yea, above all Im glad my friends and I walked away without a scratch.
Im bummed about the weekend getting cut short and my truck of course, but feel very fortunate to be ok.

Just crunched a few numbers. It does look to be about $2k in parts. Add labor and paint and I think the $5k estimate is probably on point.
Ive looked around at comparable trucks and it seems they're selling in the $12k (average) range here. Thats with my options and mileage. KBB is at $10,250 in "good" condition (which is where my truck was at).
Not sure how its gonna go down, but I don't want a replacement. So, if they total it out will I be given the option to buy back? Ive never gone through anything like that. I would give them $XXXX for the truck and then buy parts to do the repairs myself/find my own shop?

In my AO (canada), which may be totally different from yours with regard to write off buy back,
When its a buy back you get whatever the value of the VEH is minus the scrap value and the truck. Here the scrap value is 25% of the veh appraisal.
I hit a deer and combined with hail damage i wrote off my 01 trd xcab 4x4. I argued the value up to 9000, ended up getting just over 7000 (the value minus the scrap value). It cost me rouglhy 2000 to fix which included, fender, bumper, headlights, corner lights, grill, rad support, and the fender support apron and paint. I fixed what they evaluated (damage wise) as 3500 for 2000. It worked out very well for me and i sold the 01 a few months later for 9500 and bought an 04. Your damage is at least double if not more than mine with some sheetmetal welding for sure, a big job to say the least, doubt you will make money on it like mine. Hopefully they fix it for you. I had to wait a long time to find my "perfect truck".

Dont take shit from the insuracne company, find local trucks for sale for value book value is bs and they know it, get the market value.

Well, like I said ...from what I can see... not a total, the fender & hood can be replaced with 3rd party (like Keystone for example) body parts that are built to OEM specs, I'ved used their parts before on a Corrolla we used to have & the price for parts was a fraction of what you'd pay thru Toyota, & gotta say they all lined up prefectly for a pretty much "no alignment" fit.. But it's the shit I can't see is whats going to add up, I don't think they'll total it without some frame damage, tough call...

Yes, they're going to total that. Insurance companies use the cost of a full fix with all brand new OEM parts to calculate the amount of the damage, so their estimate is almost always higher than yours. Did your airbags deploy? That usually seals the deal because they are so expensive to replace. Some states will allow you to get several quotes from body shops and use those instead of the adjuster's estimate, and you should do that if you can. Body shops almost always quote lower than the adjuster does. The insurance company wants to total your vehicle because the salvage value for Tacomas is so high. They essentially get to buy your truck from you for less than market value then fix it and sell it or part it out for profit.

Yes, you can buy it back and fix it - but you will then have a salvage title on the vehicle instead of a clean title. Yes, you almost always make out better when you buy it back and fix it than you would if you tried to replace it.

How much you get will depend on how the company paying the claim calculates values. In my state, insurers are allowed to use companies like CCC, whose sole job is to find the three lowest priced comparable vehicles on the market to use for valuation of the truck. You will get screwed if they use this method - happened to me with my '00 Taco and USAA insurance. Other companies will use the NADA retail value. You can go to the NADA site and check this yourself - it's more accurate than KBB. I switched to State Farm after I got hosed by USAA because State Farm uses NADA retail for the total value. I actually made out OK when my current Taco got totaled back in January. I still had to pay some out of pocket, but I lost a lot less $$ than I would have if I tried to replace the truck.
