I just use the holes that were all the way through where my cap rack rails have holes and used silicone. Did that to mount rails inside the cap for a cargo net holding soft goods.

Edit: pics available after I the birds living there leave my cap

The one I just made using a piece of stainless, and a block of wood, and rivets to attach. I have some stainless wire rope to add tomorrow

Hmmmm, very interesting. I have the ARE MX cap. That's the one that's higher than the cab of the truck. On the inside of the roof there is evidence that there is additional thickness.

    image-20200209_200701.jpg

The light strip is just the type with flat diodes mounted to it so you can see how on the sides and the front before the fake window recess there are shadows. To the rear of the clothes hanger is a factor metal product tag that's riveted to the headliner.

So what the hell is that extra thickness?

In the future I'd like to mount a solar panel on the top. It's going to be an elaborate mounting bracket of sorts in that I want to be able to tilt the panel on each edge so angle it towards the sun no matter what direction I'm facing when I park.

The extra support is there if you want to put extra weight up there

I figured it was something along those lines but................and I'm not a structural engineer by any means, it seems to me that unless they tie that mass into the sides all it's doing is adding beef to the top. I've worked with fiberglass boats in the past, gutting them and rebuilding them. I understand the benefits of additional thickness's but typically it is tied to something. Wooden stringers and a keel. Perhaps there is an additional layer of material that ties this added thickness to the sides.

Maybe I can use this odd shaped interior to my advantage. Maybe I can built an interior skeleton made of aluminum channel that occupies those recessed spaces down to the top of the lip of the cap where it sits on the top of the bed sides. Imagine a channel design bed rack but on the inside of the cap. I could even span the side windows with horizontal sections of this channel which would serve to create a place to add quick fists to mount trail gear (shovel, ax, hi-lift), etc. Then adding a table to the top would be possible without adding weight to the top of the cap. Which by that time would also have a large solar panel up there. I know those are not extremely heavy but still some weight.

I like bouncing ideas like this off creative people like you. :fistbump:

    It’s good work man!
Looks really nice. I definitely need to figure out a way to add something like that to mine.
