Just like what the title says, I woke up this morning and it just started so I have no idea what could have happened. Does anyone have any insight?

Some background, I went off-roading like two weeks ago but everything was working fine and has been up to today. It drives just like normal, just stuck in 2WD and a blinking green 4wd indicator. No other lights or warnings. I checked the manual and tried looking it up and I haven't found anything solid. The most I've found was the actuator is faulty or gunked up

Did a quick search. I’d follow their recommendations
First check and make sure the vent hose isn't cracked or disconnected from the 4wd actuator on the transfer case, if that's good check the limit switch voltages at the 4wd ECU when the light is flashing as outlined in the thread below and see which one(s) are out of range.

Thank you very much for the help, however this looks like it's for a 2nd gen. I'm driving a 3rd gen. The vent hose looks fine and the connector isn't loose. Will the 2nd gen still apply to the 3rd gen? Sorry for any dumb questions, this is like the last thing I need right now lol

Yes, could that have gotten in the actuator? I thought it was waterproof. It wasn't a river crossing or anything but a substantial puddle is accurate

They replaced the unit. It gets corroded fast inside those things.

It’s the actuator on the front diff not the transfer case. It’s not sending a signal to the 4x4 system so it won’t engage

And it shows up as the blinking green 4wd indicator? From what I found it was a different warning. Something like "failure to switch from 2h to 4h"

There is a couple of threads about this. But the cause and effect definitely line up to water = front actuator gets smoked. But I would wait for some members with personal experience of this to chime in.

Some were able to clean theirs, solder the wire connectors directly to the actuator motor and not have to buy a new one.

Im going to give that a shot first, it looks like this will cost me a pretty penny if I bring it to a mechanic or dealership

My 2nd gen Tacomas went into the water plenty of times, and I never had this problem, what's changed that you can't get the truck in water?

when it happened to me, it was bc the truck was not completely leveled. it was infuriating bc I was sitting for like 30 mins turning that knob, I called toyota, when thru the steps on the manual and nothing happened, then I was like "ok, send the roadside" then I rolled the trunk to the pavement and the transfer case popped into place.

I've tried on flat and hills and no dice. Also, no codes are being thrown

Try and switch into 4wd / 2wd drive and turn your wheels left to right (not on pavement) while slowly moving forward
