I guess my assumption that you had a diesel generator backup was wrong?

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Gif makers don't make that kind of money.

I already updated the "it gon rain" meme to have the hurricane.

Plus, now that I have the template, I can use it again for future storms.

For anyone's information, a helpful tip is to go buy a lower end battery back-up and only plug in the modem/router, that way you can still have internet on battery powered devices like phones and laptops if you lose power. its like $30 for a lower end one, and of course it won't last forever, but during small outages or outages that literally last a few seconds, it keeps you from dropping your internet while the modem reboots.

I was going to buy a battery backup. But then I saw it was going to be about 3 days of heavy rains, so no way it would last that long. Lol

Yeah, you're definitely in portable generator and a shitload of gas cans territory.

From what I was told in the last storm that came through, the street across from us was without power for a week. Where as we were back up in a matter of hours.

my friend lives in Houston near the space center, and he was running around trying to find a generator. after like 5 stores, he found one of the last ones at lowes. good luck with the storm...I think we are supposed to get some of it too...the bad thing is really the fact that it is supposed to freeze over land.

Yeah. There's talk about it stalling around Corpus, coming up East to Houston, then stalling again on the TX/LA border and heading North.

Sorry again for missing the chat last night @Balockay . I had too many windows up and it got lost in the back when things were moved.

And we're into day 2 of Harvey. I'm going to be working on setting up some gifs right now. The stream is still on later.

So I made it through last night's rains. Saw the water line that made it to the mailbox in the front yard. Pucker factor 7/10.

    This was in 40 minutes

    It got higher than this

Since I didn't get much sleep, I got some things loaded in the truck so that I could do some checkups on some friends houses.

First up, a friend that is working in the medical center and had been there since Friday. She didn't think she would be there that long, and didn't leave enough food for her cats. And she didn't leave a key with anyone, and her boyfriend is stuck in the woodlands. So I scoped out her place, and fortunately the cats were sitting in the window.

Luckily they looked fine, but were curious as to why I wasn't coming in.

Next stop, another friend. He's in Austin right now and wanted to come back. His seemed all clear.

I decided to check out my friend's house that's next to White Oak bayou. They said there was some flooding in their subdivision. When I got there, the water had gone down both in the bayou and on the property. So I called them up so they could come over and get whatever they needed to before it could get worse.

    Some roads had this

    Water line around their house

And in we went. Took two of us to open the front door
    [IMG]

It was pretty gnarly inside. Things had shifted around so much, they couldn't believe it. My grandmother had to go through this a few years ago, so I knew what it would be like and made my recommendations on what do to. so we got to work. They grabbed photos off the walls, clothes, and things for their dogs. After that, we up-righted one of the fridges, but emptied both. We opened the appliances to drain out the water. Using a push broom, we were able to get most of it back out the front door. We also picked up the various food items that had floated around the house and threw them away. Photos were taken of everything, we wiped ourselves down with clorox wipes and we left.

My friend with the two cats at her house called and said she was able to leave the hospital today, but wasn't sure about road conditions. So I did some driving around to check for her. All was clear. The Buffalo Bayou is still flooded

I just got back home not too long ago.

So with that being said, I consider myself very lucky. Knowing my friends will have to go through the hell of post flooding is horrible. But for now, I'm going to be around the house in case some other friends have issues with their homes.
