Trying to take my grill apart to paint it. After getting the grill off the truck, I can't figure out how it can be dissembled. Looks like the tabs holding the outer chrome part to the inner grill part were melted to it or something. I thought they were metal at first, but they're plastic.

Do you have to heat them to get them up to remove the outer portion? Or is this meant to be permanent?

Really want it apart to paint it properly and also paint the inner grill.

Thanks, I busted one off, which is how I found out they were plastic. I guess I'll just have to be really careful. Or maybe just figure out another way to hold this grill together.

Agreed. Surprised they just didn't use clips or something. Like how the emblem is held on.

Yeah, looking at this, I'm thinking of just busting them all off and caulking the thing back together. I know these are gonna break. Not even sure how I'd get it back together if I did get it apart without breaking them. 90% of them look completely flat.

They're plastic tabs that were heated and melted. You can either heat them with a soldering iron and scrape them off or use a Dremel to grind them off. There are Satoshi YouTube videos that show grill disassembly. I just went through this to mod my grill and the soldering iron worked much better for me. It's still a bit of a PITA.
