Just bought a 2023 Tacoma TDR sport. Looking for recommendations for a grill guard. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TW. While many people run grille guards, most people on here will say that they are out of fashion - they started waning in popularity about 20 years ago. There aren't many quality brands out there anymore, Westin is the only manufacturer that springs to mind and I'm not even sure what they offer anymore. In any case, the "looking for a grill guard" threads always spark a debate on their usefulness and their looks. I'll refrain from opining on either of those today.

These days, bumpers are the new hotness. Google search "low profile bumper," "hidden winch bumper," "slimline" or "hiline bumper" to see what's out there. Generally, bumpers mount straight backwards to the frame horn instead of having a bracket that loops underneath, so there isnt as much of a lever factor that tweaks things with every light impact. They are more work to install, but they are also more effective at pushing brush. (thus, that's why they are popular at the minute)

That's my recommendation. Go with what looks good to you.

    Grille guards = damage multipliers.

We've had a Grill Guard - ARB Brand I believe (been on since 03) on our 02 Tacoma (actually my son's now)...it has been terrific, hit 3 deer (2 at higher speeds) and they kept the truck from severe damage. I don't have one on our 3rd Gen though.

I was more referring to those ones like the Westin ones, not the ones that are practically a bumper.

I have a ranch hand on my 05, short of spending the cash on an ARB, it’s great for the little times my truck is driven. We use it to get things moved or for winter

I’d say the ranch hand is all you’d need if you’re just looking for something to protect the plastic fantastic front end of the truck

We’ve used mine to move fully loaded waste dumpsters without issue
